Dario "Oakie" Escalante Jr.

Dario “Oakie” Escalante, Jr. made his blessed journey home to be with our Lord on May 6, 2026. Oakie was a graduate of Earl Warren High School, Class of 2014. Those that were fortunate enough to really know him, recognized him as one who loved fiercely and gave generously to family and friends. Oakie enjoyed hiking, beach trips, and taking his dog, Peso, everywhere he went. He was a foodie and most recently spent his Sundays at church with family with a nice meal to follow. Family, Food and Faith had become very important to him. Oakie spent his last months helping to care for his beloved grandparents, whom he adored, and who adore him.

Oakie is survived by his parents, Lisa and John Metaxas, his sister, Lauren Metaxas, grandparents, Richard and Alice Quintanilla, his loyal dog, Peso, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Nick and Bertha Metaxas, Damian and Casimira Escalante, his great-grandparents, Rosa and Pedro Quintanilla, and Genaro and Herminia Garza.

A Rosary and Mass will be held Sunday, May 17th at 1:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home, with Fr. Pat Mc Daid officiating. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, May 17th from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. A catered reception will take place afterward at Sunset Funeral Home on May 17, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
