Daryl was born in 1949 at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. With deep roots in Castroville and Rio Medina, Daryl grew up surrounded by family, the outdoors, and the traditions of South Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Chester Frese and Gertrude Frese, and members of the Frese family of Castroville; including aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Tschirhart and Haby families.
Some of Daryl's fondest memories were made hunting and fishing throughout the Rio Medina and Castroville areas, where his love for the outdoors began at an early age.
Daryl attended Churchill High School in San Antonio, graduating in 1970. Never one to shy away from adventure, he rode bulls and participated in rodeo during his high school years. His love for hunting and fishing stayed with him throughout his life, and the outdoors remained a special part of who he was.
Daryl was a true jack-of-all-trades who could fix or build just about anything. He took pride in working with his hands and had a knack for figuring things out. One of his proudest accomplishments was building a home in Spring Branch, Texas, alongside his wife, Patricia. Together, they created a home that represented their life together, reflecting Daryl's hard work, determination, and ability to turn an idea into reality.
But those who knew Daryl knew there was more to him than his love of the outdoors and his many talents. He had a funny, silly side and was always ready with a joke, a riddle, or a brainteaser. He loved keeping people on their toes, making them laugh, and giving them something to think about. His humor was part of what made him uniquely Daryl, and the memories of his jokes and playful spirit will live on with those who loved him.
In the final year of his life, Daryl faced stage IV bladder cancer. He approached this chapter of his life on his own terms, choosing to forgo treatment and prioritize his quality of life. His decision reflected his desire to spend his time living life as he chose, surrounded by love in the home that he and Pat built together.
Daryl leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Frese; his daughter, Sara (Joe); his son, James; his stepdaughters, Charla, Michelle (Dale), and Sherry (Les); his brother, A.C. Frese; eleven grandchildren: Nicholas, Olivia, Kelsey, Karissa, Kendra, Kylie, Kayla, Sarah, Michael, Emily, and Jacob; and numerous cousins, friends, and neighbors.
Daryl will be remembered for his love of hunting and fishing, his ability to build and repair just about anything, his quick wit, and his playful sense of humor. He leaves behind a legacy rooted in family, hard work, laughter, and a deep connection to the Texas Hill Country he called home.
