David Douglas Lowen, was the fourth child born to Allan and Hazel Lowen in Orange New Jersey. David’s love for sports started at a very young age. After graduating high school, Dave was granted a sports scholarship to play basketball at the university of Utah. Even after finishing school, physical fitness and staying active remained a top priority for Dave. He continued to play basketball and trained in weightlifting, often participating in several fitness competitions here in Texas.
After finishing college, Dave’s love of connecting with people led him into a sales career. He started off as a Sales representative with Phillip Morris. As a sales representative he got to travel all through the continental US. He left Phillip Morris and moved to Dallas Texas and finally settled in San Antonio to be closer to his family. In San Antonio he continued to work as a sales associate for Bell Furniture, an Inventory specialist for FAMSA National and as a Finance and Sales manager for Ashley Furniture. He transitioned to home sales and worked for Armadillo Homes for several years before retiring from the work force.
He loved to talk all things sports, especially basketball and football. Never fraying from his New York teams, the Giants, Jets and Nicks. He would get excited about the Olympic games, tennis tournaments, MLB world series game and golf especially in the Tiger Woods era. When he wasn’t watching or talking sports, he was listening to house music to the likes of Larry Levan, reggae or jazz music, although a few times he was caught playing African hits and bobbing his head.
When his parents retired and moved to Texas, Dave soon followed suite. After moving in 2002, David met his love Kahlendo Banda on March 28, 2006. They were together until Dave took his last breath on 12th March 2024. David loved to travel and especially loved beach destinations such as Bahamas, Jamaica, Naples, Clearwater, North Miami beach and the US Virgin Islands. He would often say that if he could move to an island, it would be to St John (USVI) but he would have to get a driver because those twists and turns on the winding roads were too much for his heart. Dave spent many a vacation in Clearwater, St Petersburg, Naples, Miami and Melbourne beaches.
David is preceded in death by his father Allan Lowen, his mother Hazel Lowen and his brother Allan (Ricky) Lowen.
Leaving behind to mourn his passing are his wife Kahlendo Banda of San Antonio, Texas, daughters Asia and Amiyenji Lowen of San Antonio, Texas, son and daughter in-law Devion and Shaneese Lowen of San Diego, California, his grandson Josiah and granddaughter Naira Lowen of San Diego, California, his brother Kenny Lowen of Clark, New Jersey, his sisters Cynthia Lowen of Mebane, North Carolina, and Jaqueline Lowen of San Antonio,Texas, along with numerous extended family and many friends.
