He entered Regular Army Service in 1940 and served as Division Surgeon of the 101st Airborne Division during the Normandy Invasion. After retiring from the Air Force, Col. Gold was Professor of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX from 1963 to 1971.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Miriam Gold.
Col. Gold is survived by his daughters, Ruth E. Gold-Stewart and husband James C. Stewart of San Antonio, TX, and Margaret P. Gold of Galveston, TX; son, Ronald E. Gold and wife Mabel Gambarelli of Houston, TX; grandson David L. Gold, and "adopted grandchildren" Lindsay and Liam Kutac.
