David Ibanez, 78, lifelong educator, avid outdoorsman, and passionate financial enthusiast, peacefully passed away Monday, February 1 in San Antonio, after an extended hospital stay.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Edna Ibanez, son Michael Ibanez, granddaughters Sloan and Brantley Ibanez, brothers Roger and Baldemar Ibanez, sister Imelda Vasquez, and a host of cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
David died on the 22nd anniversary of his mother Bernarda Ibanez’s passing. He was also predeceased by his father Jose Ibanez, who died when David was a child.
Dr. Ibanez was most proud of his 50-year career in San Antonio-area public schools, the majority of which was spent as an administrator at South San Antonio High School and the Northside ISD Secondary Alternative School. He retired in 2017 after a short stint as an administrator at Holmes High School.
In addition to his public school service, Dr. Ibanez was a university professor at Sul Ross State University-Uvalde and Wayland Baptist University-San Antonio, where he instructed and mentored prospective school administrators.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 11, 1 p.m. at Sunset North Funeral Home at 910 N Loop 1604 E in San Antonio. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the funeral home.
