David William Jauer passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. Born on April 3, 1948, at the historic Nix hospital to William E. Jauer and Marion B. Jauer, he is a fifth generation Texan descending from Johann Carl Ludwig Jauer, a citizen of the Republic of Texas. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School, he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a cryptographer on the USS Walke. Following a tour of duty on a UN peacekeeping mission in the Mediterranean, he honorably separated from the Navy. He then toured Europe for almost a year, creating many fond memories.
David graduated with honors from Southwest Texas (now Texas State University) and joined a prominent real estate & commercial development firm as a broker, developer, and general aviation pilot. A successful, admired real estate broker and SRA-designated real estate appraiser, he started his own firm, Jauer & Associates, where he practiced many years until retiring in 2015. An avid traveler, David enjoyed scuba diving with the San Antonio International Nautical Team (S.A.I.N.T.s), and established Caribbean Yacht Cruises, a private charter yacht brokerage.
A lifelong Episcopalian, he married his devoted wife Elizabeth (Liz) in the garden of Cathedral House with Bishop Harold Gosnell officiating. They enjoyed 42 wonderful years of marriage and have one delightful daughter, Joyce Elizabeth (Joy) who made her Daddy proud by graduating from both Harvard University and Texas A&M University’s Bush School of Government and Public Service.
David was inducted into the prestigious Order of the Cascarone in 2014 for his more than 40 years of service to Fiesta San Antonio: as a life member, PMO Commissioner, and one of the original “Fiesta Men.” Like his father and brother, he was a member of Rotary International for decades, part of the SA Northwest Club and recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He dedicated his time to many other civic activities: he was President of the Sons of the Republic of Texas and active in the Alamo and Travis Chapters for over 40 years; a member of Beethoven German Club for 26 years; President of the Appraisal Institute, SA Chapter; President of the SA Jaycees; life member of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo; designated an Admiral in the Texas Navy; a member of the SA Business and Professional Club; served over 25 years on the City of Shavano Park Planning and Zoning Committee; and was currently serving as President of Los Allegradores. He also designed the Fiesta medals for Sons of the Republic of Texas and Beethoven for many years. David will be missed by his Lee High School buddies who still meet each month.
David was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Jeffrey E. Jauer, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Jauer; daughter, Joyce Jauer and husband Jonah Schrowang; brother, Jeffrey Jauer and wife Sylvia; niece, Vanessa Jauer; great-nieces and nephew Cailan Jauer, Samantha Jauer, Hannah Arnold, and Zane Arnold.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
