David Edward Knowlton was born October 5, 1941, to Lloyd and Roberta Knowlton and was taken to his heavenly home on September 6, 2024. David’s mission in life could be summed up by his walk with Jesus Christ and his relationship with wife, Jane and children, Deke, Cody, and Katy. Outside of work and being a Life Deacon at First Baptist Church, David’s hobbies were focused on home and family. In addition to serving as the Director of the Young Adult Sunday School Class, David served on numerous First Baptist committees including: Finance, Building and Property, Transportation and the Minister of Music Search Committee.
From an early age, he loved all things mechanical and excelled at working with his hands. He attended Northside High School before going on to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve for eight years. His mechanical training included attending the Detroit Diesel School, Cummins Engine School, Caterpillar Diesel School, and the Nissan Diesel School. His employment was as diverse as his knowledge of machinery and diesel engines. His proudest roles were working twice at Knowlton’s Creamery (Oak Farms) as the Fleet Manager and for companies such as Big Tex Grain and Newell Salvage. The company he founded in 1977, Diesel Conversion Service, was on the cutting edge of repowering gasoline engines to diesel engines. He finished out his career at Lyda Construction, ROMCO, and Specialized Transport Services doing what he loved most which was driving the big rigs. In retirement, David volunteered at his church and Bible Study Fellowship.
David is predeceased by his loving wife, Jane, of over 60 years and his parents; and is survived by his children, Deke (Lisa) Knowlton, Cody (Carole) Knowlton, and Katy (Stephen) Fulkerson. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dillon, Jackson, Kameron, Lainey, and Stephanie Knowlton, and Lauren and Lily Fulkerson. David is survived by his two brothers, Jim and Jon, and two sisters, Kathie Knowlton and Karen Lee in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
The Knowlton and Fulkerson families would like to thank the dedicated staff at Morningside Ministries Menger Springs - Kendall House, who provided loving and compassionate support to David throughout his illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of San Antonio or Morningside Ministries.
A Memorial Service will be held on September 19, 2024, at 10:30 am in the Wilson Chapel of First Baptist Church of San Antonio.
