'I'm sorry I am too late to thank Mr. Rusmisel myself, but I am hoping some of his family may read this. I was a freshman at Jefferson in fall, 1965, and I wanted to get out of my geometry class because the teacher (Mr. Oliva) taught things in a way quite different from the standard textbook approach. My Dad went to see Mr. Rusmisel to switch me to the other section, but he insisted Mr. Oliva was truly outstanding and that I should give him more of a chance (I recall he told my Dad that the school from which they had recruited Mr. Oliva was "fighting mad" that he had left for Jefferson). He promised that if I didn't like it within two weeks, he would let me switch to the other section. Well, I did come around within those two weeks, and as a consequence I have developed a lifelong love of math that I otherwise wouldn't have had; I can't begin to describe the extent to which this has improved the quality of my life. I wish I could thank Mr. Rusmisel personally, but as I said, I hope some of his relatives see this and know how much he was appreciated.'

'Mr. David was one of the two most significant influences in my life (the other, my stepdad). I went into education because of him and spent 30+ years in the classroom. I always tried to replicate his fairness, honesty, and compassion for my students that he had given all of us in Ag. Without Mr. David I probably would have never gone to college. 'David helped me win a scholarship to Texas A&M in 1952. He and his dad had a great influence on my life. David was very supportive of his former students and even came to the funeral of one of his Burbank students, Bruce Norris. David will be remembered with honor and respect. He will be missed.'

'In my whole teaching career I never worked with a finer administrator than David Rusmisel. He was both deservidly admired and respected by the faculty and students at Burbank High School. He was always there for me when I needed help, and helped make me a better teacher. Additionally, I admire him for the fact that he was a great American, having fought for us in World War II. 
Bettie joins me in extending our sympathy to his lovely wife Dorothy and all of their family. We will all miss him mightily, but we appreciate the fact that he left both the field of education and our country better for his having been here. I wish there were more Americans like David Rusmisel.
