I, David Michael Iwasaki Stewart, passed away at home from cancer on June 23, 2026, at the age of 67. I was born on January 21, 1959 at Fort Sam Houston to Edwin P. Stewart and Shukuko Iwasaki. David was an army brat and attended Wilshire, Garner, and MacArthur Schools between his family's military move, from a variety of place like Kitzingen, Germany and Hawaii.
After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed overseas at Torrejon air base in Spain, outside Madrid. Frequent T.D.Y.S took him to Aviano A.B. in Italy, Sigonella N.A.F in Sicily, and Incirlik A.B. in Turkey, where he uploaded monitions on F-4 C's and D's as a member of the 401st TFW. He enjoyed touring Madrid, skied the Italian Alps, was almost pick-pocketed in Venice, and shared tea and tobacco with Turks. After the Air Force he worked as a G.M. technician for over 30 years, finally retiring at Cavenders. His hobbies include muscle cars, Paleontology and antique firearms, being a life and benefactor member of the NRA and TSAR. He also liked cats (most). David was predeceased by his love Cheryl, and his mother and father.
David leaves behind many wonderful friends:
Especially The Garcia Family- Leonard, Mike, Veronica Daniel, Fernando, and Luis. Terry and Doug Yamamoto and Neighbor Mayme Naschke. Robert Hilton and the beautiful ladies at Cavender's, Margie and Cindy. He is survived by his furry love-sponges Kraken, Old Fudd, Julian, Big Muffin, Harry, Slinky, and Black Kitty.
Dave was a Conservative Presbyterian and is now on his final journey. God bless you all and if it pleases you, I will live on in your hearts mind.
A loud shout-out to my special friend and caregiver Leonard Garcia, who took on the difficult task of caring for this old grump, I could not have made it this far without you, my friend. You're the best.
Any donations may be directed to the San Antonio Humane Society, Churchill Veterinary or any other cat rescue organizations.
And last but not least, the kind and understanding friends at All Seasons Hospice Care, who helped navigate my way into the long sleep. Katie, Rosie, Melinda, Jason, and Maria. Kaylee Peacock from Methodist Cancer Program. And Meals on Wheels.
"When the rain beats on my window pane, I'll think of Summer days again, and dream of you... and dream of you."
Goodbye.
