'Beautiful summary of Dave and his impact on people. I remember that smile, enthusiasm, compassion and generosity during the brief time I had exposure to the Thomas family many years ago. It was a treat tutoring the kids and 'babysitting' while Dave and Ilona had date night. I enjoyed speaking with Dave via phone a few years ago and he was always so proud of his kids. Do all you can boys to continue the Thomas legacy and all the great things your dad was. My prayers are with you Ilona, and your family, as you grieve the passing of the special man in your life. 'When I moved to Garden Ridge in 2003 Dave was my next door neighbor. We both were building new houses at the time and became good friends. We both joined the Garden Ridge Lions club in 2004 and later became officers in the club. Dave was our lion tamer and initiated the Lion of the month in which a lion was featured at our meetings to allow members to better know about their background. Dave loved working with his fellow lions and was a volunteer on numerous lion activities. His presence was an asset to all that knew him.

As a fellow sailor I can only wish him fair winds and following seas in his eternal life hereafter. God bless and may we meet again.'

'Dave, from the very first day I met you, you left a lasting impression on my life. Your service in the US Navy, your career, and the way you lived and loved life. I looked up to you as a mentor in many ways and still do. I still remember my very first time behind a steering wheel with you as my passenger and my driving instructor.

'My darling uncle Dave, we may have lived on different continents but you were always in my heart and thoughts. I am so grateful for the time we spent with you over the last few years - the children adore you and Sam often spoke about his drinking buddy, the incredible chats you had together and how comfortable you all made him. He never took much convincing to visit San Antonio because he genuinely loved seeing you. I will always remember your voice calling from the background "Love you Carmen" whenever I spoke to Ilon or just telling me yourself. The children remember a great uncle who was funny, kind and 'very handsome'. They were fascinated by all you had achieved in your life and the kindness you always showed others. My fondest memories include chatting with you after you'd work for hours in your yard. You'd have a big, icy drink in your hand and we'd talk about family, Australia, anything... I remember laughing with you when you put the post through your truck window. It wasn't an ideal situation but we laughed and laughed. I remember the takeaway containers and every time I see one, I will be reminded of you. You were one of the most charasmatic, charming, giving men I knew and a true gentleman to the very end. I will never forget you and ensure the children always remember the special person you were. Missing you dearly. Thank you for such special memories. Love you forever. 'Dave and I spent many hours working together at Scripto. We had great times both in working and social. He would add ice to a beer on a hot Texas afternoon, which I have carried on in Oklahoma and it reminds me of Dave every time. He showed his caring for down on their luck. I saw more than once he give a hand full change to a guy along the street. He always had a good time with the Scripto sales people at our meetings. There is so much more that I could share, he was a special guy. I am honored that Ilona called to let me know. I will always have memories Dave Thomas. God bless each member of Daves family.'
