

David attended Granite City public schools, graduating as co-valedictorian of Granite City Sr. High in 1963. He attended the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana graduating with a major in Chemistry & German in 1967. He went on to graduate from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine with an M.D. degree. He completed his internship at the University of Iowa and received his M.P.H. from Harvard. David joined the United States Air Force in 1973 serving as a Medical Officer at Rhein-Main Air Base in Frankfurt, Germany, Wright Patterson AFB Ohio, Brooks AFB, TX where he attended the School of Aerospace Medicine, Mather AFB, Sacramento, CA and Lackland AFB, TX achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel. He continued to serve as a physician at the V.A. Hospital in San Antonio from which he retired in 2010.
He was an avid Volksmarsch enthusiast picking up the activity while stationed in Germany. He came back to the states to start the first club in Dayton, OH, the OHIO Wander Freunde in 1978. He went on to co-found the American Volkssport Association in 1979. David was an active walking participant until his health no longer permitted and went on to service as a volunteer and mentor to insure the longevity and continued success of the organization.
He was a lifelong Disney fan after visiting the park in California as a child. His fascination with all things Disney transferred to his son, Andrew, whom he made sure visited both parks in the U.S. multiple times and when the park opened in Paris France, they were on the first flight out. His passion extended to Disney cruises as well.
He was an enthusiastic and quick learner enjoying classical music, opera, all books, and all genres of movies. He was an experienced traveler. David was a member of his high school marching band as well as the University of Illinois marching Illini, playing the cornet as did his father.
He was a friend, mentor, teacher, advisor, listener, physician and most of all a family man that provided the best life he could for those he cared for.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank (Geza) Toth and Carmen Hilda Toth nee Stone.
David is survived by his son, Andrew, daughter-in-law, Becky, and his grandson, Cooper and his former wife,
Pamela Toth nee Kafka.
Cremation and interment will be private at a later date.
