Dean was born October 27, 1979, in San Antonio, Texas to David and Paulette Hillman. He graduated from Smithson Valley High School in 1999 and attended St. Philip’s College. Dean loved all sports, but his favorite was football. Not only did he play on the 1999 high school team that made it to the State Semi-Final game, but he also made lifelong friends through the sport.
Dean had many jobs and worked as an Environmental Technician, Heavy Equipment Operator, Over-the-Road Truck Driver, and his passion for the outdoors led him to Drury’s Gun Shop. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting, from fly fishing with his sister in Missouri to hunting deer on his grandfather’s property in Spring Branch, TX, he was always ready for outdoor adventures. After Dean was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) he spent a significant amount of his time reading and writing. The only thing he loved more than the outdoors, reading, and writing was being a devoted Christian. He was an active member of Shavano Baptist Church.
Dean is survived by his parents, David and Paulette Hillman; his sister and brother-in-law, Joanna and Wesley Friske; his nephew, Logan Friske and many aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
