

Dema Irlene (Whitmire) Kincaid, 83, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2010 in a San Antonio nursing home where she resided since suffering a devastating stroke in December of 2008. Irlene was born December 26, 1926 in Salem, Missouri, to Dema and Irl Hill Whitmire, and spent most of her life in San Antonio. She was a 1945 graduate of San Antonio Brackenridge High School. Irlene married Robert Hutson Kincaid on December 16, 1946 in San Antonio where her love of her family, many friends, and her church became the focus of her life. It was her joy and the work of her life to serve and care for others. She did so as a leader in PTA, an active servant in the Church, and a passionate crusader for MADD following the death of her husband at the hands of a drunk driver.
She is survived by her two children Linda James and husband Robert of China Spring, Texas, son Robert Irl Kincaid and wife Kimberly, of San Antonio; grandchildren Dena Lauren Newman and husband Craig, Amanda Kelley Bond and husband Matt, and Emily Marie Kincaid; great-grandchildren James Jackson Newman, and Robert Andrew Newman. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Irlene was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Hutson Kincaid, parents Dema Marie and Irl Hill Whitmire, and brother, David Key Whitmire of Ft. Worth. She was a long-time member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, San Antonio. The family wishes to thank the staff at Sonterra Health Center and VistaCare Hospice for the loving support and tenderness given to Irlene.
Visitation will be from 6-8:00 pm on Monday, August 30, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the funeral home chapel. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Mausoleum II. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mothers Against Drunk Driving or a charity of your choice.
