Dennis Michael Dickey, age 63, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, in San Antonio. He was born on September 6, 1960, in Houston, Texas to Edith Mary Walsh and Charles Winfield Dickey, Jr. Dennis proudly held the position as the 5th Dickey in the sibling group of eight children.
Dennis attended Mount Sacred Heart Catholic School and later attended Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas where he excelled in academics, football and leadership within the Military Drill team. He graduated from Churchill High School in San Antonio, Texas. Dennis went on to study accounting and worked for many years alongside his father at the CW Dickey Accounting firm in San Antonio, Texas.
As a teenager Dennis was an excellent athlete enjoying summers swimming competitively on the swim and diving team at Oak Hills Country Club. Dennis later became an avid darts competitor and spent many happy hours building friendships and winning tournaments. This is where he would meet the love of his life, Judy. Dennis and Judy married on April 26, 1993. They were the best parents to their many fur babies over the years. If you were a pet to Dennis and Judy, you were one loved animal! Together they made a huge impact on their family and community. Uncle D and Aunt Judy loved all of their nieces and nephews and cherished attending all of their events. They were friends to anyone that was lucky to know them and would lend a hand to all that needed it. For numerous years Dennis was the volunteer Santa at many foster care agency Christmas parties. He did this so frequently, that he eventually would get his own Santa suit and was ready for any and all events at a moment’s notice. As a couple, Dennis and Judy, were also passionate music enthusiasts. If there was a live music event happening, they were probably there singing and dancing!
Second only to his love for Judy, Dennis loved to fish, taking fishing trips with family often. He and Judy created the annual Charlie Dickey Fishing Tournament after his father passed away. It later became affectionately known as “Rocktoberfish” and is held annually in Rockport, Texas. This began as somewhat of a family reunion but also a gathering where all were welcome. Dennis always caught fish and sometimes even won the tournament. If you attended, you were treated to fishing, of course, but also live music, good food and the best company you could imagine.
Dennis is survived by his brothers Charles “Buddy” Dickey (Carol), Pat Dickey (Janne’a), and Bill Dickey, his sisters Donna Moses and Darcy Barron (Nick) and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Redford Dickey; his parents, Charles and Edith Dickey and his sisters Mary and Charlene.
At a later date, Dennis, Judy and their beloved dog, Noche’s ashes will be scattered in the ocean at the annual Charlie Dickey “Rocktoberfish” Fishing Tournament in Rockport, Texas commemorating their shared love of the beach, fishing, music and family..
