Diane could light up a room just by walking in. She was someone special to each of us in her own way. My “work wife” of six years, she taught us how to love without losing ourselves. She was “the wife” because she was always right, and whenever anyone asked me anything, my answer was always, “Let me check with Diane first.”

She had a magical way of making people feel seen. She’d joke that she didn’t need or want any more friends and yet somehow, she made one everywhere she went. “Does my face say, ‘Tell me more?’” she’d laugh.

Her quirks made her even more lovable: feeling her hair and nails grow, dissecting a salad with precision, and finding joy in little things like the perfect mascara or a new brand of beef jerky. Those were her reminders to notice life’s small, beautiful moments.

Diane cherished her family. She adored her Brookie and Huddy, and she loved Jamey with her whole heart, they were true soulmates. From the moment she met him, she never stood a chance with those green eyes staring back at her. A daddy’s girl through and through, her face always beamed with pride when she spoke of her mom. She loved her dogs too, she’d say she got them for Hudson, but we all knew better.

She taught me lessons that changed me forever: how to see my own worth, how to be a better mom and wife, how to say “no,” and sometimes keep quiet (though I’m still working on that one).

Diane loved life, her family, friends, students, and a good country song. She made ordinary moments extraordinary. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing she’s at peace, probably saying, “I don’t need any more friends, but I’ll make a few anyway.”

Thank you, Diane, for your laughter, wisdom, love, and light. We’ll carry you always and every time we hear an Old Dominion song, share a drink at happy hour, slip on sandals and shades, or stand at the water’s edge, we’ll think of you. We love you and miss you more than words can say.

I still can’t believe you’re gone, Diane. My heart hurts knowing we won’t have our random conversations and catch-up sessions anymore. You were such a beautiful light kind, funny, and full of warmth. You touched so many lives, including mine, and I’m so grateful to have called you my friend. I’m so deeply sorry for this loss. In the short time that I knew Diane, she made quite the impression. She always did what was best for the students and made Scobee a better place. I enjoyed our conversations in the hallway. Happy Hour was so much fun when she came. Her natural sense of humor kept us laughing.

I will remember Diane, as the pretty little girl, playing with dolly during mass. Years
