Dianne was the daughter of Ruth Gary Phipps and Vernon “Bill” Phipps. She was born and raised in San Antonio, TX and graduated from Harlandale High School, where she enjoyed studying business and home economics. After living in Germany for a few years, Dianne returned to San Antonio where she met and married the love of her life, Rodger Lewis, on March 9, 1967.
Dianne enjoyed a career in the insurance claims industry in San Antonio and at American Airlines Headquarters in the Dallas area. But most important to her, Dianne pursued deep family ties that have left a lasting legacy. After joyfully raising her beloved daughter, Dawn, Dianne was a helpful blessing in the lives of other family members, including her niece, Cheryl, to whom she extended the bonds of motherly love. Later in life, she cherished her greatest role as “Mamo” to her adoring grandchildren. Dianne was a nurturer and caregiver at heart and was a mother/grandmother figure to many other cousins and friends.
Like Rodger, Dianne had a “work hard—play hard” philosophy. She was the master of the honey-do list and loved a good burn pile. Dianne loved to be on-the-go, whether that was to cheer on the kids at sporting events, family excursions to Rockport, exciting trips to Hawaii, or her Funship cruises to the Caribbean. But at the end of the day she relished relaxing on the back porch with friends and family.
Well done, faithful Wife and Mother. You have left a wonderful legacy. Dianne is preceded in death by her husband Rodger Lewis, parents Ruth and Bill Phipps, in-laws, Martha and Hildon Stroud.
Dianne is survived by her daughter Dawn (husband Jay) Gorman; grandchildren Jackson Gorman, Jenna Gorman, and Colton Gorman; brother Vern (wife Nancy) Phipps; nephew Brad (wife Tina) Phipps and their children Jack and Austin; niece Cheryl (husband Gary) Smith and their daughter Rylee; niece Sarah (husband Victor) and their boys; and many other cousins who were like brothers and sisters.
