Dixie Ann Dickson Waggoner was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 17,1934 to Richard F. Dickson, DDS and Geraldine Henderson Dickson and had a twin brother. She was an exceptionally beautiful, sweet, loving, joyful, generous and loyal daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Dixie was Mom to five children and Grammy to 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Dixie cherished her Family and always made time for each member, celebrating four generations. She also treasured her friendships; especially, with her best friends Jane Landry, Helen Morse, Ann Anderson and Doris Gerber. Dixie was like a "second mom" to many of her children's friends--always offering kind and encouraging words.
Growing up in San Antonio, Dixie and her family were longtime members of Travis Park United Methodist Church. She graduated from Jefferson High School and served on the Student Council and, as well, was Chaplain, Secretary, and Historian in other HS organizations. Dixie won two 1st Places in Vocal Contests. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology from the University of Texas at Austin and was a vocalist in their A Cappella Choir.
Dixie was a passionate musician and instilled the love of music in her Family. She sang in church choirs,
played the handbells, piccolo and flute in church orchestras; and was in a 4-piece ensemble at St. Paul's
Lutheran Church. Dixie had a beautiful soprano voice. As a teenager and young adult, she and her twin
brother often sang on local radio and at public events. Dixie also had an innate mechanical talent and
could fix anything--be it a clock or car. In fact, she was in the San Antonio Express News for her skill with rebuilding Volkswagens. Dixie was a strong advocate for NEISD Continuing Education and served on their Advisory Council for Occupational Education and Technology. She also enjoyed a good game of cards and had a fun, competitive spirit with Family and Friends.
Dixie is survived by her Children Tracy Gerber (Joe); Patrick Waggoner (Alma); Leslie McDonnold (Craig); Kimberley Weissgarber (Glen); and Kerry Abt. Dixie's surviving Grandchildren are Noelle Lutton (Vince); Courtney Schuetze; Waggoner McDonnold; Rawlin McDonnold; Samantha Sherrill (Russell); Ava Weissgarber; and Alixandria Johnson (Jeff). Dixie's Surviving Great-grandchildren are Bradley Schuetze; Annelise Schuetze; Josephine Lutton; and Everett Lutton.
Dixie's predeceased family members are her parents Geraldine and Richard F. Dickson; her former
husband Daniel L. Waggoner, MD; her twin brother Richard L. Dickson and his wife, Peggy; and her
Grandson Brennan Abt.
Dixie's legacy of joy and generosity lives through each of her Family members. We will cherish our time
with her and fill our saddened hearts with such sustaining memories 'til we are whole.
