Dolores S. Gonzalez, 99, of San Antonio, passed away October 20, 2022. She was born in San Antonio on September 17, 1923, to Oscar Sanchez and Manuela Del Bosque Sanchez. She was married to Hector A. Gonzalez for 30 years until Hector's untimely death and at only 50 years old, Dolores found herself without a means of support. A proud, strong woman, Dolores recreated and redefined herself as a professional. Having never held a job to support herself, she held two jobs for almost 20 years until her retirement from SAISD as a teacher's aide in 1986 but continued working at a local toy store. She was a member of the Red Hatters, active in the Catholic Church, and was a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She loved playing bingo, watching novellas, and traveling to Las Vegas to visit her brother Joe and playing slot machines. Her family loved her cooking, especially her legendary arroz, and the tamales and cookies she made for Christmas, recipes carried on to this day by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 2 sisters (Olga Ledesma and Margaret Martinez), and 1 brother (Joe Sanchez).
She is survived by daughter Rebecca Calderon (Eddie), sons Hector H.(Grace), George A. (Dorthey), sister Minerva Montemayor, 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Dolores will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 6907 Kitchener Street, San Antonio, Texas 78240. A rosary will occur Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 9:30 AM followed by Mass at 10:00AM at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 6907 Kitchener Street , San Antonio, Texas 78240. Followed by internment on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at San Fernando Cemetery II, 1735 Cupples Rd., San Antonio, Tx 78226.
