Dolores Marie Hernandez, age 68, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. Dolores was born October 29, 1954, in San Antonio to her parents, Henrietta (Queta) and Benito (Benny) Hernandez. Lolie, as she was known by everyone, was a graduate of Edison High School class of 1973, where she was a member of the band, orchestra, and various student organizations. She graduated from San Antonio College in 1975 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in education at the University of Houston in 1979. She moved home to San Antonio and worked as a veterinary technician. Ever the free-spirit, she moved to Seattle in 1983 for a change of scenery then went on to travel Australia in the summer of 1985. Lolie returned home once again and began her teaching career in the South San Antonio Independent School District at Palo Alto Elementary School where she worked from 1986 until 1992. Throughout her time in Texas, she was a dedicated member of the Young Republicans and served as a delegate at the local and state levels; she also served on the executive committee of the San Antonio chapter of the Republican Hispanic National Assembly. Giving in to her restless nature, Lolie moved to Mexico City in 1992 to teach at the American International School. During her time in Mexico, she met Markus Kuttruff and the two continued to live in Mexico (Mexico City and Monterrey) until moving back home to San Antonio in 2005. Lolie and Markus were married in November of 2005, and she began teaching music in the Northside Independent School District at two schools, Adams Hill and Valley Hi Elementaries. In 2006, she began teaching full-time at Adams Hill. In 2010, Lolie took over the music teacher position at Knowlton Elementary where she remained until her retirement in 2019. She enjoyed traveling during her lifetime and took advantage of her free schedule during retirement, seeing even more of the world both at home in the U.S. and abroad with Markus at her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henrietta and Benito Hernandez. Lolie is survived by her loving husband, Markus J. Kuttruff; sister, Mary Lou Hernandez (Terry Neudecker); brother, Ben Hernandez; nieces, Erica Villarreal (G.A.), Lisa Hernandez-Bobrow (Alexandra), and Jessica Barchie (Luke); great-nieces, Adrienne Villarreal, Claire Barchie, Natalie Villarreal, and Ava Barchie; great-nephew, Alexander Barchie; and many cousins and extended family, and friends she counted as family.
