Dolores June Hill Deason

June was born in the farming community of Leonard, Ark., to Juanita Cruce Hill and George Avery Hill on June 24, 1931. At the age of five, she moved to the Bootheel of Missouri to Kennett, where she graduated from Kennett High School in 1950 where she was a top student, athlete, singer, and competitively danced the jitterbug. Though she loved the small town of Kennett where she had made many wonderful life-long friends, she pursued a new challenge in Washington, D.C. with the Army in the Pentagon from 1952-1955. During her time at the Pentagon, she met her husband of 43 years, Col. Charles Albert Deason, who predeceased her in 1998.

Following her marriage, she accompanied her husband to Ft. Sam Houston, Texas; Bangkok, Thailand; Fort Knox, Kentucky; Seoul, Korea; Fort Hood, Texas, and then, Austin, Texas. In Austin, June was employed by the Republican Party of Texas. In 1970, a final move brought June and her husband to San Antonio, where they lived the remainder of their lives.

It was in San Antonio where June became very involved in Republican politics, serving as a Delegate to the National Republican Convention in 1988. She served as President of the Bexar County Republican Women in 1979, was PR Director and Editor of the Partyline (TX Republican Women’s Publication) and Assistant Campaign Director for the National Federation of Republican Women. June was also a highly sought after political campaign consultant in Bexar County for many different Republican candidates, including those seeking positions for city council, district judge, state representative, senator, attorney general, and United States Congressional seats. She had the pleasure of working for many American Presidents and attending several Presidential inaugurations.

June served on the City of San Antonio Market Square Board in 1982. She also had many honors bestowed upon her, including being the President of the Bexar County Republican’s Women’s Club, receiving the Texas Federation of Republican Women 10 Outstanding Women Award in 1983, and was inducted into the Bexar County Republican Party Hall of Fame in 2001.

In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her parents, her stepdaughter Marjorie Hitselberger and her beloved stepson Charles A. (Butch) Deason, Jr. She is survived by her grandchildren Cecille Deason (Scott Lunsford), Dax Deason (Nytzia Deason), Lindsay Deason Frye, and step-granddaughter Stephanie Hooten (Jody Hooten). She also leaves behind 12 great grandchildren and countless friends and political acquaintances.

June was a child of the Depression and learned to value everything and everyone. She will always be remembered as smart, sassy, fun loving, quick witted, and an advocate for what she believed in. She had a deep love of animals her entire life, especially basset hounds and stray cats. She advocated for animal responsibility and was devoted to each of her pets and strays, including people who needed a friend and a home; they became additional members of her family.

The family will receive guests from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
