Dolores (Lola) R Medellin passed away in her home on May 15, 2015 at the age of 78. Lola was born March 19, 1937 in the small town of Taylor, Texas. She lost both her parents within 15 days of each other at the age of 4. She moved to San Antonio and was raised by her Uncle and his wife.
She attended Providence High School while working part time at the Alameda Theatre. She met her future husband on a blind date, and after dating a little over a year, she married him on May 1, 1960. She was employed at Joske’s downtown for years and later became a branch manager of San Antonio Savings. Soon after she volunteered at what used to be the Stella Maris Clinic located off Highway 90. It was there she found her true calling. She assisted the sisters of the clinic in the capacity of a receptionist, and became instrumental in helping to provide care to the underserved in that area of town. Years later, UHS acquired the property and took over the clinic. Lola continued to work at the clinic until she transferred to the Texas Diabetes Institute also operated by UHS. She continued to work there until her retirement in 2009.
Lola will be most remembered for her compassion for others as well as animals. She would often take food to the strays that lingered around the hospital. She was a member of the Holy Name Society, a Life Member of the Altar Society as well as a Life Member of the VFW 9186.
She was preceded in death by her parents Julian and Aurora Ruiz and her brother Phillip Amesquita. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jimmy M Medellin; daughter, Debra Medellin-Beyer and husband, Robert; sister-in-la, Connie Amesquita; brother, David Amesquita and wife, Eilene; as well a many nieces and nephews.
The family of Lola would like to extend a special thanks to Monica Cruz who assisted with her care in her final time here on earth.
