Dolph T. Dr. Wells

Dr. Wells was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph Taylor Wells and Elizabeth Higgason; and two sisters, Elizabeth Chandler of Conway, Arkansas and Mary Anne Fouts of Midwest City, Oklahoma.

Dr. Wells attended schools in Drew County and graduated from Monticello High School in 1939. He served in the Army and the Air Corps for fifty-nine months during WWII. Following his Army discharge, he returned to Monticello to attend A&M College in Monticello, now the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where he began his pre-med study.

His marriage to his high school sweetheart, Estella Maurine Martin, took place on January 1, 1946. Dr. Wells was admitted to the University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock in the fall of 1947 and graduated on July 1, 1951, having served as president of his graduation class. He served a one-year rotation internship at Santa Rosa Hospital from June 1951 to June 1952.

Following his internship, he spent the next two years in the US Air Force practicing as a medical doctor with the rank of Captain. In 1954, after discharge from the Air Force, Dr. Wells returned to San Antonio and began a successful family practice, which continued for over 40 years. He was a member of the Bexar County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Society and served a one year term as Chief of Staff at Southeast Baptist Hospital.

Dr. Wells loved woodworking and made many pieces of beautiful furniture. He learned to scuba dive and to weave baskets. He loved to spend time on his sailboat at Canyon Lake. He enjoyed his family and was a positive, encouraging influence in each of their lives.

Dr. Wells is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Maurine and their four children, William Taylor Wells and wife, Carolyn of Houston, Mariann Elizabeth Golden and husband, Jerry, Susan Maurine Bartlett and husband, Randy, and David Martin Wells and wife, Kathleen, all of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Henrietta Mason of Monticello, Arkansas.
