Domingo V. Vargas

Domingo V. Vargas Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cherished family member, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026. He was born on April 9, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas, to Domingo Vargas Sr. and Ninfa Velasco.

Domingo was a man who found joy in the simple things in life, especially his hobbies and the time he spent with those he loved. He enjoyed watching Dallas Cowboys football games and never missed the opportunity to settle in and watch his favorite Western shows. He also loved taking walks around his neighborhood and believed in staying active, often making time for exercise. These activities were an important part of his daily life and reflected his energetic spirit and love for keeping busy.

Music was another special part of Domingo's life. He was naturally musically inclined and a talented guitarist who took great pride in sharing his knowledge and passion for music with others. One of his most treasured memories was sharing what he knew about playing the guitar with his granddaughter, Maureen. Throughout his life, Domingo showcased his musical talents by playing in bands and sharing his voice and love of music by singing at weddings and in various places where people gathered to listen. Music was not simply a hobby for him, it was a passion that allowed him to connect with others and create lasting memories.

Domingo was a true family man who cherished spending time with his loved ones. He held a particularly special place in his heart for his siblings. Whenever the family gathered together, the love and closeness they shared could be felt by everyone around them.

Living near St. Mary's, Domingo and his family had a front-row seat to one of San Antonio's beloved traditions, the famous Oyster Bake. When the event took place, family members would gather outside together, enjoying the music drifting through the neighborhood and watching people walking around. Those gatherings created plenty of laughter and memories, including the family's good-natured habit of joking about some of the people they saw. These simple moments of togetherness were among the things that made family life so meaningful to Domingo.

Domingo also took great pride in his career. He worked for many years at Cardell Cabinetry, where he made cabinets and eventually worked his way up to become a supervisor. He loved his job and dedicated many years of his life to his work before eventually retiring. His years at Cardell Cabinetry were an important part of his life and a source of pride for him.

Domingo leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory, including his son, Domingo V. Vargas III; his daughter, Cynthia Ortiz and her husband, Rene; his sister, Gloria; his beloved granddaughter, Maureen; his nieces and nephews, Rudy, Raul Jr., Richard, Ruben, Nancy, Linda, JoAnne, and Olga; as well as numerous extended family members on his wife's side.

He was preceded in death by his wife Yolanda Campos, parents, Domingo Vargas Sr. and Ninfa Velasco; his son, Daniel; his brother, Raul; and his nephew, Raul.

Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237, US, on October 6, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm, with the Rosary at the same location on October 6, 2026, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

An Open Mic will take place at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237, on October 7, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Graveside Service at San Fernando Cemetery II, 746 Castroville Rd, San Antonio, TX 78237.
