Don Russell Newman

Don R. Newman passed away October 25, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 69. He was born July 28, 1942 in Brownwood, Texas to Jim and Ila Mae (Wilson) Newman. He grew up on the family ranch near May.

Don served in the U.S. Air Force for 8 years with several tours of duty in Vietnam. After his first marriage ended, he returned to Brownwood where he met Glenda Ray. They were married in 1970. Their daughter Robin was born in 1972.

In 1990, a career change took the family from Dallas to Fairfax County, Virginia where they remained for 14 years. Don loved to travel and during this time the family enjoyed many wonderful vacations to destinations in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Don was an avid photographer and his camera was always at his side during these trips to capture every "photo-op".

In 2004 the family returned to Texas to be near family and enjoy the warmer Texas weather. He will be greatly missed.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Newman who died in Korea; sister-in-law, Peggy Newman; father-in-law, Richard Ray; and cousin, James R. (Buddy) Sanders.

He is survived by his loving family: wife, Glenda; daughters, Shelly Mills and Robin Newman; granddaughter, Charrolotte Mills; brother, Lewie Newman; mother-in-law, Tommie Ray; sister-in-law, Reba McGowan and husband Bob; brother-in-law, Randall Ray and wife Debbie; nephews, Randy Newman and wife Debra, Jerry Newman and wife Betsy, David Newman and wife Alicia, and Trenton Ray; nieces, Sue Wells and husband Greg, and Shari Harling; great-nephews and nieces, Slade, Sloan, Marshall, Randa, Tom, Corrie, Bess, George, and Kallie; cousins, Jamie Sanders, and Pam Grayson and husband Jim; dear friends, Gene and Beverley Thun and their children, Cindy, Seth, Scott, and Aaron.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North in San Antonio.
