

Donald Byron Ervin, 72, passed away Sunday October 16, 2011 from lung cancer unexpectedly diagnosed last week. He was born April 13, 1939 in Dawson Springs, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his Mother and Stepfather Jo and Irving Wayne and son Irving Cash Ervin. Survivors include his beloved wife Sharon Kay Ervin; daughters Donna Kaye Martin (Rickey) of Houston, Texas, Stephanie Garrett and son Gregory Garrett of San Antonio; Grandchildren include Cody and Dylan Garrett, Jack and Jolie Gallegos all of San Antonio; one sister Nancy Gilbert of Plantation, Florida, stepsister Barbara Myers (Jim) of Houston and sister in law Becky Halks of San Antonio along with several cousins, nephews and nieces.
Don moved with his parents to San Antonio in 1956 from Kentucky. After studying general business in college for two years he worked with various home builders before joining Westinghouse to serve as territory manager. He worked two years in the San Antonio area and three and one half years in Corpus Christi and while there met his wife Sharon. In 1968 the family moved to San Antonio where he continued to work with Westinghouse for the next two years before joining RCA. In 1978 RCA became known as Interstate Electric Company and promoted Don to sales manager. Don won many awards for top salesman of the year. During these years Don and Sharon enjoyed numerous dealer trips throughout the US and other countries. In the summer of 1982 Don left Interstate to take over a sporting good and police equipment business called Alamo Leather Goods eventually becoming president of the company. Don formed many lasting relationships with his representatives and dealers throughout these years. Don retired in December 2005.
For the next several years Don and Sharon enjoyed several long vacations including cruises to Alaska, the Panama Canal, and his last vacation was to the mountains in Wyoming.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday October 19, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home . Funeral services will be held on Thursday October 20, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Sunset North Funeral Home and burial at Mission Park North with Larry Scharmann officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society (lls.org) or to Oak Meadow United Methodist Church at 2740 Hunters Green, San Antonio, Texas 78231.
