

The Reverend Donald N. Hungerford, 78 Priest of the Diocese of Northwest Texas, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2005.
After serving with the USA 3rd Army of Occupation in Heidelberg, Germany from 1945 to 1947, Fr. Hungerford, a native of Hartford, CT graduated from Trinity College, Hartford.
He next entered Berkeley Seminary at Yale in New Haven, CT. and graduated in 1954. He was ordained deacon in 1954 and priest in 1955 after serving as Curate at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Manchester, CT, he moved to Texas where he became Vicar of St. John's, Snyder and All Saints', Colorado City.
In 1959, he became Rector of St. Mary's, Big Spring, TX and in 1966 became Rector at St. John's, Odessa, TX. In 1985 on a sabbatical he studied under Alister Mc Grath at Wycliffe College in Oxford and went to Australia in 1986 to be exchange Rector of St. Peter and St. Paul's Anglican Church at Pt. Pirie in South Australia.
In 1989 he retired at St. John's Odessa. Following his retirement he was Interim Rector at Christ Episcopal Church in Rolla, Missouri, Church of Heavenly Rest in Abilene, TX where he also was Interim Head Master at St. John's School.
Later he was Interim Rector at St. John's, New Braunfels, TX and then Interim Rector at St. Francis by the Lake, Canyon Lake, TX. He ws Interim Rector at St. George, San Antonio, from 1994 to 1995 and was again Interim Rector at St. George in 2004 until March 2005, when the progression of his illness caused him to retire.
Surviving wife, Edith: 3 daughters; Ellen Schweers, Elizabeth Baker, Harriet Manning. One son, Donald L. Hungerford. One sister, Thelma Moyle; 4 brothers; Rodney, Kenneth, Charles and Richard; and 3 grandchildren.
