I have just recently learned of Dr. Johnson's passing.  He was a down to earth, good, loving man.  Dr. J took the time to write me a hand written note when I had to put down my beloved dog, Kara -- comforting me by reinforcing my difficult decision. Dr. J saved the life of my beautiful cat in July.  No other vet would have taken the time and effort that he did with Sinbad and they would have charged me three or four times as much.  I have driven across town, all the way from Helotes, for many years to bring my pets to Dr. J.  He was the only vet I trusted.  All together Dr. J has cared for my animals for over 32 years.

I called this week to schedule an appointment and learned of his passing.  How sad to hear the news and I haven't stopped thinking about him since.  Dr. J you will be missed.  My deepest sympathy goes out to your family.

I wanted to add that I just wish I could have given him a hug and told him how much he is loved and appreciated the last time I saw him.  I hope he knew.

I have not not crying since I called our dear Dr Johnson's office this morning to make an appointment and learned of his passing.  He took great care of our dogs over the years and, in the difficult times, he took time to make sure that we were all right, too.  We loved and appreciated his old fashioned values and quality, unrushed service that he gave.  He had a gentle spirit and a delightful sense of humor.  He always asked about my family, especially my grandson that he knew I love so much..  My love and true condolences to his family.  This is such a loss for the San Antonio community.  He is, and always will be, missed greatly.

Dr. Johnson was such a wonderful caring person.  He was the first and only vet for Teeny, my invaluable companion.  She was saved due to Dr. Johnson's skill and caring.  We miss him dearly. We were so sorry we missed the Obituary on Dr. Johnson.  We were both were stunned and saddened when we called the office for an appointment and heard of Dr. J's death.  He has been our vet for 20 plus years.  Such a wonderful, kind man.  I know St. Francis of Asissi has a new helper in heaven as he loves and cares for Man's Best Friends. Dr Johnson is missed by soooooooo many people and pets. My brother had to put his dog to sleep a few days after Dr. Johnson passed away and it was not a good experience for the dog or us. Our family deeply misses Dr. Johnson. I remember as a child going to him with our family dog and ever since then we always went to Dr. Johnson. He IS very missed. The messages I have been reading in here are all so beautiful but yet none of them surprize me.In the time I knew him I witnessed many of these acts of kindness personally.I,ve already written in this book a couple of times but I miss my friend so much this seems to keep me closer to him.He was a friend a farther figure and a mentor to me and I thank him from the bottom of my heart for being all these things to me.I also thank his family for sharing him with me and so many others.Rest in peace my friend I miss you so much.

Dr. Johnson was our vet for over 25 years.  We only found out this week about his passing and were incredibly shocked and saddened.  He has treated and boarded 5 dogs and one cat over the years for us.  He was a remarkable man, admired and loved by all his animal friends and human friends.  Sincere condolences to his family. I wish to express my deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. Donald Johnson. 

Yesterday, I went to the clinic to pick up some meds and found that Dr. Johnson is no longer here on earth with us -- but in heaven.  After hearing about Dr. Johnson from a friend, I never considered going to another vet.  He practiced "common sense" animal medicine -- I especially appreciated that about him.  In addition, he was a wonderful christian man.  I had a friend who had gone to Dr. Johnson for years.  When she became ill with cancer and was no longer able to take them to the the clinic, Dr. Johnson went to her home to see about her animals. After she became ill and prior to her death, he would never take money for vet services.  

Two days before Dr. Johnson died and one day before I was leaving on a trip and taking my little dog with me, I called because my dog was ill.  Dr. Johnson worked me in.  He said she should only need a couple of doses of the meds and refused to let me pay for the meds or the visit, even though I was prepared to do so.  He just said "enjoy your trip".  The next day I left on the trip and did not know about Dr. Johnson's death until yesterday.

Dr. Johnson will be truly missed.  May God comfort the family at this time of mourning.

 We just learned today of Dr Johnson's passing.  I still can't believe he is gone.  He was a good man and a great vet.  He will be missed by many.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I was stunned to learn of Dr. Johnson's passing today. We have been with him since he first opened up his practice across the street from my neighborhood. He took care of all of our pets over the years, and went out of his way to show compassion when some of our pets had to be put to sleep. He even made a house visit to me when my 19 year old cat passed away, just to make sure I was okay. I will never forget that! We shall truly miss him so much, and my sincere condolences go out to his family. I'm sorry I didn't get to pay my respects to him, but he has to know from all the entries here how much he was loved. You made a difference Dr. J !

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Johnson family. I was devasted this morning  when I called to make an appointment for our dogs and was told about Dr.Johnson. We have been going to see him over 25 years .He was always so kind to us and our dogs. He was always such a great vet and wonderful person and he will be missed greatly.

He made maintaining our pets very affordable and always seemed to keep them healthy and happy.  This morning i took my oldest dog to see him and was completely devastated to find out that he had passed.  He will be very missed and has touched so many lives with his outstanding work and dedication to all animals that he worked with. I just found out this weekend about Don's passing.  He was our vet since I was a child.  He took care of five of my family's dogs and two of my dogs as an adult.  Last year, we had to put my 14 year old Lab, Hunter to sleep and he made it easier to let go of him.  Don will be very much missed by the Parsons/Broussard clans.  My sympathies in his loss.

We Have Lost A Friend
I will miss Dr. Johnson..as will my wife and our various feline friends he helped over the years. From "finicky" MaMa who wouldn't take a pill from anyone but Dr. Johnson to the happy go lucky galoot, "Mr. Ears." There are few truly good people in the world and Dr. Johnson was one of them. At 64, I find I prefer the company of animals over humans. Dr. J. was the exception. He loved his little animal pals, and they, in turn, loved him back. Dear Dear Dr. Johnson: 
I called for you and found out you left to go to Heaven, I could not believe it! 

I so remember when I first come to see you back in 1969, 1970.  I was in single mother with 4 children and of course my children had their pets. As a single mother of 4 we were always short of money.  But we found you, the Vet with the heart of gold.  You always worked with us, you never said no.  My children now have kids of their own. They all went to see you.  

You took care of my dog Stolone, you took the time to teach me how to give him his incelin injections.  You and I knew he was not long for this world.  When he died, I said "no more dogs".  

One magic day you called and you asked me to come see you.  When you handed me that baby dachshund, I just could not say no.  That was 5 1/2 years ago.  Tootsie is the love of my life.  

I know you are home with our Lord, I know you will be tending to all the pets that are there now. Oh how happy those babies must be, their Dr. Johnson has joined them.  I know that our Lord has given you a very special place in the home He has for all of us.  You have always been such a wonderful person to so many people.  Thank you Dr. Johnson for all that you did for us.  We all are so lucky to have had you in our lives, the good Lord certainly blessed us when he put you on Acorn Hill.  It will never be the same.  

I have cryed my tears for you and I know my children have also.  My heart is heavy now and I will miss you.  Yet my heart sings for I know you are in a good place and we will all meet again some day. God loves you Dr. Johnson and so do we.

Dr. Johnson, we will miss you!  We first met you 26 years ago, just after our wedding, when we were looking for a vet for my wife's dog, Taffy.  Your office was only a block away from where we were living at the time.  Since then, you've kindly and wonderfully cared for Taffy, Sallie, MacEntire, Mellie, and Squirt, and for my parents' dog, Suzie. You even neutered one of our gerbils, to help with a little overpopulation problem!  You were so good that we continued going to you, even after we moved across town.  You watched our kids grow up, and offered advice when our daughter was considering veterinary medicine.  Knowing I played in the symphony, you always asked how the orchestra was doing, and kindly gave us a break on your fees when I was out of work. When one of our dogs was having serious trouble, you let us visit her at your office after hours, so we could give her a little extra love, in case she didn't survive the second surgery - thanks to you, she did make it.  You shared your love of church choirs with us, and I was excited to be part of the group that played with you at St. Andrews at Christmas time last year.  We miss you, but we know you are in a far better place now.  God bless and comfort your entire family!

To the Johnson family, My "Bella" and I first met Dr Johnson when I brought her home from the breeders.  When she was just a few months old she became very dehydrated and almost died because she wouldn't eat or drink.  Dr Johnson kept her at his clinic for a week and saved her life.  Bella and I will miss him very much.  He had such a tender heart for his patients.  I am so sorry for your loss and pray the Lord will bring you comfort at this time of grief.

Doc Johnson was kind and quirky, honest and giving, and never hesitated to help at a moment's notice.  Any kind of animal...any time of day...from office visits with too-chubby pets to emergencies with dire-straits strays, and once or twice without a dime in my pocket, Doc cared for my beloved creatures.  I will miss our talks about Thai food and teaching, and will fondly think of him and his plight to win "yard of the month" each time I water his caladium bulbs in my garden. I will be saddened whenever I reach for the phone to make an appointment or drive by that little Acorn Hill office.  He's a good man gone too soon.  We should all be so lucky in life to find our one true passion, and he gave his all to that calling.   I thank you for sharing so much of your one-of-a-kind father and husband.  Know that I cry with you.  To Doc: On the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, please look after my critters in Heaven as you did on earth.  We'll miss you...

Dr. Johnson was such a wonderful vet - Can't fathom how many stray animals I've taken in, along with numerous dogs and cats of my own in about 30 years. He was no nonsense and pragmatic and funny. It was hard for me to get to his office during the week, and my last visit he let me bring my 4 cats and dog in early on a Saturday. We laughed and visited about animal welfare in San Antonio, and it was refreshing to have a chance to talk with him. He always had a cat and dog in the office he was helping with. Gave me an affordable price on amputating the leg of a stray so I could get him adopted out. He was definitely one of a kind and loved. He's irreplacable and I'm so sad. I will have you, his family, in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you.

Doc Johnson was a wonderful caring husband, father, man and vet.  I had the pleasure of working with Muriel and rooming with Patty in college.  From these two exceptional ladies I met Doc Johnson.  I found him to be honest, caring, knowledgeable and devoted.  I referred my parents, my sister and my uncle to him.  He has been wonderful to us over the last 15 years.  He will truly be missed.  My entire extended family have the Johnson family in our prayers.

Dear Dr Johnson, I know you are with those that have gone before you and you are looking down on us from heaven, saying, "I was welcomed by those I helped but more importantly, by He that said "Well done, My Good and Faithful Servant!" You have finished your race and done what the Good Lord had set out for you to accomplish. My brother referred me to Dr. Johnson when I moved back to San Antonio three years ago.  He told me that when his beloved dog died suddenly and he was too grief-stricken to take the dog to Dr. Johnson's office, Dr. Johnson personally went to my brother's house to pick up the dog and arrange for its cremation.  Dr. Johnson also found the perfect little dog for my brother within three weeks.  I realized what a gem of a veterinarian and a man Dr. Johnson was as soon as I began taking my pets to him.  He truly cared about the animals and the people who brought them to his office.  Although I did not know him very well or for very long, I will forever remember him and will always consider him the best vet I've ever encountered.

I cannot believe my dear friend is gone.
He was one of the kindest men I knew.
He was our vet for over 30 years and through about 10 animals.
He was such a womderful person. We will all miss him dearly.

Dr. Johnson was my vet of choice for all of the years that I bred and showed cats. He took care of our dogs and I joked with him many times that I needed him for me and my horse too. You could always trust him to understand what was best for the animals and for me. He was "one of a kind" and not to be replaced. God must need him to care for all of the "friends" that have gone before him. Imagine the welcome all of those animals will give him. Please know that we loved him and grieve with you at your loss.

I wrote a message on the 12th but did,nt sign it so when you see the unsigned message as well as just a signature it,s me.I still remember doc teaching me the basics on the computer being ever so patient with me.He also taught me about gardening and was the one who got my garden started.He has treated my guys for quite a long time through good and bad times.I still remember when I lost one of my guys after surgery in recovery he came personally on his lunch break to tell me and broke down with me.We first met at the gym and he would always share his fitness gains with me.As I said earlier he was more then a friend and a vet to me he was like an adopted dad.He was,nt afraid to give me a kick in the butt when I needed as well as a pat on the back or a hug.I will miss you my friend so good bye for now until we meet again.My deepest coldolences to the Johnson family and all who had the privledge of knowing this wonderful man.

Dr. Johnson was my vet for about 30 years.  He was such a kind and compassionate man.  My pets and I will miss him.  I feel like I lost a good friend

Dr Johnson was a true care giver and lover of animals as well as people.  I have taken my dogs to him for years and he was always kind and sincere with their care.  We will miss him greatly.

Dr. Johnson has been our vet and friend for the past 12 years.  He was our animal angel taking in all our strays and helping them to mend.  He did this with a smile and always had a funny joke for us.  The Amberton and its animals, residents and office team already miss him tremendously.  Our prayers are with his family and Acorn Hill Team.

Don helped our family and so many other families go through what can be a most painful time, losing a beloved pet.  He did it with so much compassion and dignity, never making light of the strong attachment we had to our animals.  When I commented about how difficult that part of his job must be, he shrugged it off in his usual modest way.  I also enjoyed his dedication to praising God with his voice and listening to him sing.  We thank God for his work on earth and know he's taking good care of our animals up in heaven.

We have taken our animals to Dr. Johnson for over 30 years, and he was always very compassionate with each of them as well as us. He helped us make some very difficult decisions over the years, and we are so grateful to him for everything he has done for all of our pets and also for us. He will be missed. He was a very kind man who was loved by people and pets alike. We will miss him greatly. My prayers are with his family at this time.

I was fortunate to know Dr. Johnson on many different levels. In High School I worked for him and witness first hand the love he had for all animals and the respect he gave them while he cared for them. After my employment, we maintained in touch as he was the only Vet that treated all of my pets. Dr. Johnson was both a friend and Mentor for me. I will miss our conversations and his great sense of humor. He was one of a kind. I wish to give the entire Johnson family my deepest condolences and will keep them in my prayers.

We just learned of Dr. Johnson's passing, and feel so very sad and grateful at the same time for having had the privilege to cross his pass. He was a no nonsense, non fake person and vet, who could set you straight in a second. I wish human doctors had some of his essence. We are clients who will always measure all upcoming vets against him. Congratulations on a life lived so well. St Peter must have had such a big smile on his face when he knocked on his door. His gain is our loss. Our heart felt condolences to his family and to us orphans. The whole he leaves is keenly felt throughout the community.

Dr. Johnson, you have been our family vet my entire life. I remember coming into your office when I was a child. Nothing changed, the smell, the room, some of the decoration...I evern remember when you put up that digital sign for the first time (it was high tech back then). You have always taken care of my family, my mother and myself. Yours is a breed of professional that is rare. You performed your trade with honor and dignitiy and treated us all like family. Money did not drive your success...you truely loved what you did, you loved to take care of us and you never hesitated to be frank and honest. I have always admired and respected you and will sorely miss you for the rest of my life.

Doc you were a virtuous, honorable, and caring person. You were the greatest because you liked what you did and you truely cared about the animals as well as their owners who admired, depended on, and trusted in you. We will forever miss you.

I wish to express my condolences to Donald's family and to convey to them my gratitude to have had the good fortune to have known him for the past 6 years.
I will always remember his compassion, kindness and  professionalism.  It is obvious to me that this man led an exemplary life and I know that he will be missed and fondly remembered by all who came in contact with him.

Dear Johnson Family,
Please accept our deepest sympathies on your loss. We were very saddened to hear this news. We have been taking our dogs to Dr. Johnson since 1977. His love and care was beyond compare. He always had a smile and a kind word, would ask after our pets even if we we just in to pick up meds. He will be sorely missed. Our prayers are with you. To the Johnson family and staff, you were so blessed to have this man in your life. I have never met a more caring man. He loved animals so much and always wore his feelings about life and the little creatures on his sleeve. He was much more than a vet to us, he was a friend. Don cared for our pets as we did for over 30 years and helped us make the hard decisions when they had to be made. Dr. Don, you will be sorely missed here, but I know that you are happy where you are because, you are around those that you have loved and cared for. God's speed friend until we meet again.

Our pets always sensed his calm and compassionate nature and were not afraid to visit Dr. Johnson's clinic. The news of my good friend passing came as a true shock.I will miss him greatly as will many as I know his compassion for for both animals and people touched many heart.Doc as I called him was like an adopted dad to me which meant the world to me.I pray that his wonderful family is comforted by our lord and savior during this time of grieving.Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful man with me.Im so sorry that im not there and wont be able to attend the memorial service but please know I will be there in spirit.

My heart goes out to Dr. Johnson's family. He has been my vet for over 30 years and he was always real caring with my dogs. San Antonio has truly lost a great vet as well as a man who was very principled and honest. I loved Dr. Johnson and always, always trusted his opinion and judgement. He will be missed!!!

My deepest condolences to the Johnson family.  My heart and prayers go out to you.  He will be greatly missed.  As I sit here trying to remember all of the dogs and cats he has taken care of for me through the years.  I remember his kindness and gracious being.  I remember the numerous stray cats that I adopted that he spayed or nuetered and gave them their shots all at a reduced rate.  The times that he gave me his home phone number if I had a pet that was ill.  The litter of puppies that he worked tirelessly to save from Parvo many years ago.  He even took my dogs home once when there was no where for me to board them. He was my vet for over 30 years and I will miss him!

My Husband and I will truely miss Dr. Johnson.  We were so sad the day we heard. In the years that we went to him w/ our pets he showed so much care and compassion towards them.  We never had to worry about them as he was there for us and our pets and didn't have to wait for an appointment.  We offer our sincere sympathies to his family.  John and Desiree Ost (San Antono)
