He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marion; his son, Donald B. Mundy; daughter-in-law, Val; and his sister, Sis.
Don was born in St. Louis and grew up in Des Arc, Missouri, the youngest of eight children. He joined the Air Force and served his country for 23 years.
Don served in the Korean War and Vietnam as a medic, achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. He was also awarded two Accommodation Medals and numerous other awards and citations.
He was stationed all over the world, including Germany, India and England, where he met the love of his life. Don's long military career began as a medic. He served with Air Rescue, delivered many babies, worked in O.R. and retired in Hospital Administration.
When he retired from the Air Force in 1973, he opened a Western Store in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He eventually went into sales and management in the Western Industry. During his second career he was a designer, top salesman and a National Sales Manager.
Don retired at the age of 65 and had an active and fulfilling retirement for 10 years. He will be missed by all of his good friends with the Mission City Bass Club. He enjoyed fishing with all of them for over 18 years as one of the Magnificent Seven.
Don was a life member of the Alamo Heights Optimist Club and was their President during 2004-2005. His proudest contribution to the San Antonio community was the Optimist Club's "Coats for Kids". The club raised money in several different ways, including selling Christmas trees every year. Don was a parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi on DeZavala Road for over 30 years.
Don Mundy's life was measured by his character, courage and optimism. He will be missed by many.
We give special thanks to Vista Care Hospice for the angels they provided during his last days.
