Donetta (Donnie) Marlene Ball went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 11, 2011 at the age of 65 after a 4 year battle with leukemia. She was born on May 13, 1945 in Findlay, Ohio and left us just 2 days prior to her 66th birthday. Donnie was a devout Christian and was an example for all who knew her and loved to do for others. She gave freely of herself in support of her family, friends, students, and the military family. She was a devoted teacher for 21 years and retired from NEISD after 16 years of service. Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Frances Ward. She is survived by her loving and faithful husband of 42 years, Col (Ret.) Michael B. Ball; son, Maj. Michael A. Ball (Mary); daughter, Kathryn Miller (Lt COL Bryan Miller); grandchildren, Lauren, Kyle, Hunter, Jacob, and Abbey; sisters, Shirlee Zerkel (Gary) and Sharon Taulbee; brother, Douglas Ward (Alice); numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Nathan Shumway for his loving care throughout the course of her illness and to the Oncology staff at W.H.M.C. and VistaCareHospice. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to VistaCareHospice in San Marcos, TX or St. Joseph Catholic Church Honey Creek. A visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Sunset North Funeral Home and a Rosary will be recited that same evening at 7:00p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church Honey Creek, 25781 Hwy. 46 West; and interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
