February 20, 1944 – September 18, 2019
Doniece James passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by loved ones on September 18, 2019 at the age of 75.
Doniece married Jim Thomas James September 17, 1966. Jim stated their marriage worked because of their combined love for life and each other. Fifty-three years together brought them adventures and laughter.
Doniece was born on February 20, 1944 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Clariece and Donald Schott. She was active in her community growing up including membership in Campfire Girls and the Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She attended Cameron College and Oklahoma State University. After marriage, she was employed as a civil servant at Fort Sill in Lawton, OK, Dept. of Agriculture in Brownsville, and a paralegal at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. She felt passionately about her role as a Victim Witness Liaison.
Speaking of passion, Doniece prided herself on creating safe and supportive space for family and friends. She filled her home with people, memories and most of all love and laughter. One of her closest friends describes her as "the life of the party." Her home was always filled with life. One example of the exuberance that filled her home was the sheer amount of greenery. Doniece loved gardening and was an outdoor enthusiast.
Doniece is survived by husband, Jim James and her two daughters, Laurissa Grinnell and husband David Grinnell, Teressa Lowrance and husband, John Christopher Lowrance, two grandsons, Johnathan and Sean Lowrance and numerous extended family and friends.
The family will honor her wish for cremation.

Growing up on Dearborn street in Lawton, Doniece was our neighbor and one of my younger sister's best friends. She was a real part of our family as well...frequently staying for dinner and always ready with a smile. That is my memory...Doniece's wonderful smile and ready laughter. Thanks for that, Schotsy!

To the family of Doneice, please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I went to Camp C’Andy with her for many years. She was the life of the party. Rest in Paradise.

These beautiful words capture the essence of Doniece. She was the perfect Victim Witness Liaison as she had unknowingly trained for that position from childhood. From childhood and beyond, I always admired her courage to stand up to a bully, to right a wrong, and to seek justice for others.
Doniece was loyal, loving, and supportive to many. She called us her "Sister-Friends".
It's true that Doniece was "The Life of the Party". Her impish antics and laughter never failed to have all of us laughing along with her.
And so, along with many others, my life has been enriched and blessed to have shared it with my "Sister-Friend", Doniece.
Watch out Heaven! Here she comes!
Blessings to all,
