Donna Vaughn Dennison, loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, died December 11, 2017, at her home in San Antonio. She was born in Cookeville, Tennessee on 30 January 1940 and grew up in Celina, Tennessee. She played basketball in high school and truly enjoyed all sports throughout her life, especially watching football and cheering for the San Antonio Spurs.
Donna wanted others to know Jesus, and she wanted to represent the Lord well. She was faithful prayer warrior, including praying with her best friend Gloria Gately most Monday afternoons for more than 30 years. She also enjoyed working with children, having company, being outside, and telling and hearing jokes. No matter the circumstances, she was quick to laugh.
Donna is survived by her husband, John C. Dennison; her son, Alton Scott Newell III; her, daughter, Sabra N. Sweeney and husband, Bob; her sister, Tamara Vaughn Cardona; her grandchildren, Katie Coslov and husband, Ryan, Daniel and Thomas Sweeney; her stepsons, John Edward "Jed" Dennison and wife, Margie, Timothy Dennison and wife, Sarah, Matthew Dennison and wife, Elizabeth; her step-grandchildren, Benjamin, Iris, Paul and Wesley Dennison; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and great-nephews and nieces.
Even though she had to adjust to a very different life beginning in 1990, she maintained her positive attitude, was always thinking of others, and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her generosity, kind spirit, and deep faith touched countless lives. Donna will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In 2004, Donna published "Laughter", a book that she complied in the hopes that it would bring joy to the reader but also to raise awareness and funds to support Lighthouse Christian Camp in Smithville, Tennessee and The Christian School at Castle Hills. She was a board member of the Lighthouse Christian Camp and spent several summers there with her beloved caregiver Mary Maddox.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December, 14, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough. Memorial Service Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Porter Loring. Interment will be private for family members only.
In lieu of flowers, the address for Lighthouse Christian Camp is 205 Serenity Place, Smithville, Tennessee 37166 and The Christian School at Castle Hills, 2216 N.W. Military Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78213.
One of Donna's favorite verses (she had many) was Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not onto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
