Doris Belle (Wightman) Cain was born on May 16, 1940 in St. Claire County, Missouri to John Merland and Bessie Lillian (Tucker) Wightman. Doris will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 61 years, John Stevenson Cain, Jr. ; brother, John Dale (Arlene) Wightman; children, Angela (John Paul) Manley and Johnna (Joe) Holland; and wonderful grandchildren, Damon Cain, Nicholas (Ashleigh) Hodges, Joshua Manley, Jordan Manley, and Bethany Manley. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Louise (Merlin) Wade and Joyce Hemmingsen. She will also be dearly missed by many extended family members and precious friends.
Doris committed her life to Jesus Christ at a young age and lived her life every day for her Lord. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was fiercely devoted to her family and embraced every moment with them. As a military wife, Doris was a woman of strength, integrity, and adventure. She loved to travel the world and meet new people. In fact, she lived her life as though she had never met a stranger. Doris was a woman after God’s own heart – she continuously opened her house to those who were in need and actively showed the love of Christ by providing meals to those in her community. Many can attest to her service in the church and to her family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at 3:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 5:00 p.m. at Sunset Northwest funeral home in San Antonio, Texas. Burial to be held at a later date at Fort Sam Houston.
