Doris Marie Fehrman Coulter, born July 22, 1925, in Hillsboro, Texas passed away peacefully with family on December 3, 2011, after a 23 day valiant battle with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.
She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband, Marion Coulter and her beloved son, Kevin Coulter. A witty, intelligent and caring soul, she was always the life of the party.
Along with her husband, she nurtured her family, traveled the world and enjoyed the finest cuisines along the way. Party hostess supreme, the love of entertaining never left her, just scaled down a bit. She cherished her time in Port Aransas, Tiki Village on Medina Lake, Bent Tree Farm in Seguin and most recently, at the family beach house in Galveston.
Reading was a passion she passed on through generations and her quest for writing and storytelling never ceased. In an extension of her love for gardening, Doris and son Kevin owned and operated the Greenery Square Flower Shop for many years. Living most of her life in San Antonio, she took on a new adventure moving to Houston with Marion to share time with her daughter Cathy and husband Mike Bullard and grandchildren, Courtney and Ross.
She also made frequent trips to Dallas to spend time with her daughter Carol Coulter, grandchildren Ama, Akua and Danquah and great-grandchildren, Nina, Joe and Dylan. As long as she was able to get on a plane, she was gone and yet still enjoyed the simple pleasures of nature. Most recently, traveling with Carol to West Texas for the Monarch Migration. She maintained many San Antonio friendships including the Purple Gang of Breckenridge High School, family friend Henry Johnson, dearest college friend Fran Hite and childhood friends, Reinette and Billy Cottingham. Her new life in Houston included moving to Bayou Manor Retirement Community.
She enjoyed all of her new friendships with residents and staff. She often commented she was "living on a cruise ship...so much to do". Saturday bingo, Chickenfoot, Red Hat events, movies and candlelight dinners topped her list. She also enjoyed her volunteer work for the M.D. Anderson Christmas Card project. Always inquisitive, she even took up Mah Jong and Tai Chi at 85. The most entertaining lady her entire life- we will feast on her memory for the rest of ours. We love you Muzzy and now you're with Paw Paw again!
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Porter Loring.
