JULY 16, 1923-FEBRUARY 3, 2015
Doris Bissett Myers was born on July 16, 1923 to Myrle and Elmer Bissett in Victoria, Texas and died February 3, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas. She spent her early years in Victoria, Boerne and San Antonio. Dosie graduated from high school at age 15. During her sophomore year of college she went on a blind date with Warren Myers, whom she married in 1942 after a short courtship. While Warren was at war in the Pacific, she graduated from The University of the Incarnate Word with a degree in teaching. Dosie taught 6th grade at Cambridge Elementary School from 1958 until 1978. Past students still stayed in touch and frequently stopped by her table in local restaurants to say hello and tell of the impact she had on their lives.
After retiring from teaching, Dosie stayed active in Trinity Baptist Church, where she and her husband were charter members. She was a devoted Sunday School member and was active in many Bible Studies, including Bible Study Fellowship. Dosie and Warren adopted Baylor University, becoming alumni-by-choice and enjoyed being season ticket holders for many years. She enjoyed travel, sewing, and time spent with family and friends. After 66 happy years together, Warren died in 2009. Dosie moved to the Army Retirement Community and continued her active social life with her many long-time friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Verna Lou and L.A. Pittman.
In addition to her many friends, she is survived by niece, Ami Brown and nephews, Calvin Slater, Lee Slater, Don Mauch, Bruce Mauch, Perry W. Myers and John Pittman and their families. A memorial service will be held on February 7, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in The Chapel on the grounds of the Army Residence Community 7400 Crestway Drive in San Antonio. Private interment will follow at a later date.
