Doris P. Overbay, age 85, passed away July 9, 2020 in Boerne , Texas. She was born in Sweetwater, Texas on May 18, 1935. Doris was a loving mother to her two sons Tim and Kevin (wife Shari). They were the loves of her life. Additionally, she throughly enjoyed watching the wildlife of the Texas Hill Country.
She was Valedictorian of her class in Bracketville, Texas but was too poor to go anywhere. Happy Shahan, the west Texas rancher where the Alamo replica was built for John Wayne’s movie The Alamo, gave Doris $200 to leave that town and never come back. She moved to San Antonio and enrolled in Secretary School. Afterwards, Doris joined Civil Service and met her husband, James C. Overbay in Alaska.
“Happy Shahan was a good man”, Doris always said as she cried; “he changed my life “.
- “In all the chaos in the world today, pray to God and help your fellow man. A little help may change one’s path forever “.- Kevin (her son)
Doris retired after 40 years in Civil Service. She then joined Zachary Global where she was very proud to be a part of building the US Embassy in Russia. She retired from that “part time job “ after sixteen years.
The Graveside Service will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Sunset Memorial Park.
