OBITUARY

Doris "Dink" Jean Vaughn

June 14, 1938 – April 5, 2023
Obituary of Doris "Dink" Jean Vaughn
IN THE CARE OF

Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home

Doris Jean Vaughn, 84, was born on June 14, 1938, in Jenny Lind, Arkansas, to Frank and Etta Clark. She shared sixty years of marriage with the love of her life, Danny Vaughn whom she met at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. Doris and Danny were blessed with two daughters, Joanne Beyer (Kenneth) and Kimberly Carleston (Paul). Her grandchildren include, Ryan Beyer (Margaret), Krystal Rendon (Matthew), Cody Beyer (Kristen), Sgt Rachael Carleston (Lindsey), Lindsay Freeman (Hunter), Brooklyn Davidoff (Brett). Danny and Doris also have 6 great grandchildren.

Doris, fondly called “Dink” by her husband, was the quintessential military wife. She participated in the “mission” and got the job done. She supported her family during deployments to Europe and Asia. She worked for 20 plus years at Fort Sam Houston ISD while her daughters finished high school on Ft. Sam Houston. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxillary at The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War. She played shuffleboard and BINGO and loved to dance with Danny. She was famous for her baking. Her Pineapple Upside Down Cake recipe was from memory that she only shared with a few. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Doris spent her last years at The Gardens of Castle Hills Assisted Living in San Antonio. She made friends, was loved, and received the very best of care by the nurses (Amanda and Liz) and their staff. Doris loved to talk to anyone who would listen. She had an infectious laugh and smile.

Danny passed away in December, 2018. Danny and Doris are dancing together again.

Doris’s great-granddaughter, Remington Pack, is a pediatric cancer survivor. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Doris’s name at stjude.org.
