With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Dottie Arzola-Segovia, beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, educator, and friend, who departed this life on April 30, 2025, at the age of 58. Born on June 26, 1966, Dottie lived a life marked by unwavering devotion to her family, a passion for education, and a fierce love for her community and heritage.
Dottie is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Ruben Segovia, with whom she built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams. She leaves behind her cherished children: Devon DeAngelo, Angela Ortiz (Steven), Arthur Segovia (Chasity), Anthony Segovia (Becca), and her beloved inherited daughter Nicole Reyes. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
She is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Arzola and Joyce Arzola-Moreno (Paul “Bucko”), and a large extended family that includes numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends, all of whom were touched by her warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit.
Dottie’s educational journey began at Incarnate Word High School, followed by Incarnate Word College, and she later earned a degree in Education Administration from Texas A&M University–Kingsville. Her academic achievements laid the foundation for a remarkable 34-year career in education, where she made a lasting impact on thousands of students and colleagues alike. Her teaching tenure included service at South San ISD, Harlandale Alternative Center, and most recently, McCollum High School, where her passion for learning and dedication to student success were unmatched.
Her excellence in education was recognized when she was named Teacher of the Year in 2023, a testament to her skill, compassion, and commitment to her students.
Dottie was deeply rooted in her community and took pride in her cultural heritage. She was an enthusiastic member of several organizations, including Hecho en Tejas BBQ Cooking Team, The Frontier Club, a Lifetime Member of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, and a member of St. Gerard’s Catholic Church where her presence was always felt and her contributions celebrated.
A woman of many passions, Dottie adored Fiesta, the San Antonio Rodeo, days at the beach, exploring new places through travel, listening to music and attending concerts. Her adventurous spirit and unique laugh were contagious, and she created memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Dottie was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, proudly sporting the black and gold and never missing a game. Her loyalty was as steadfast in football as it was in every aspect of her life.
Dottie’s legacy is one of love, strength, generosity, and joy. She was a beacon of light in the lives of those around her, and while her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, her spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family invites all who loved her to join in honoring the incredible woman she was and the remarkable life she lived.

A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, 1523 Iowa Street, San Antonio, Texas.
