Born November 8, 1916, in Scotland, Arkansas, she lived most of her life in Texas. Dorothy graduated from Amarillo High School in 1934. She attended the University of Oklahoma from 1935-1940, where she majored in music.
She was an accomplished pianist and organist. She instructed piano classes for a number of years and continued playing the organ throughout her life. Music was one of her passions and brought her great joy and comfort.
During World War II, she moved to San Antonio while working for Braniff Airlines. In 1948, Dorothy married Norwood W. Jones, who was one of the founders of Luby's Cafeterias. She became his helpmate and spent a great deal of time assisting and training new employees in the salad department as the company expanded.
Dorothy and Norwood both loved to travel. They visited countries on every continent of the world. They thoroughly enjoyed traveling with one of the first groups to enter China after relations with the U. S. were normalized.
Dorothy was one of the original members of the monthly canasta card club consisting of longtime Luby's wives. In her later years, Dorothy became an avid Spurs fan after attending several of her grandson's basketball games.
She will be remembered fondly for her love of family and friends and enjoyed spending time with both.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes Summer Griggs and Henry Irving Stubblefield and husband, Norwood W. Jones.
