Dorothy Irene McClain peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 11, 2011 . Throughout her lifetime, she was a devoted Christian, and long-time member of Houston Terrace Baptist Church , where she taught first grade for many years. She currently is a member of Baptist Temple . Irene was worn October 5, 19 19 in Sabine Parish, Louisiana . She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be remembered most for her humor, love of dominoes, home-cooked meals; and her ability to can and preserve fresh vegetables and fruits better than anyone. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Audrey Anthony; husband, James McClain; daughter, Sharon Kay Weidner; daughter-in-law, Sherilyn McClain; grandsons, Chris McClain, & Bryan McClain; brother, C.R. Anthony; and sisters, Lela Miller and Sybil Wood. Survivors include her sons, James Don McClain and Phil McClain & wife, Jennifer; son-in-law, James Weidner & wife, Cyndi; brother, Wayne Anthony; grandchildren, James Mike McClain & wife, Molly, Craig McClain & wife, Katie, Curt Weidner, Suzanne Smith & husband, Travis, Ross Weidner and Shannon McClain; great-grandchildren, Matthew McClain, Maddie McClain, Lynae McClain, Luke Smith, and Addison Milner; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Bradley officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery . The family would like to thank the staff of Autumn Winds Lodge in Schertz , TX for their love and support while Irene resided there for the last few years. Even though she had physical limitations recently, she retained her mental abilities to amuse fellow residents, staff, and all her many visitors.
