I was thinking before I even was really old enough to know you, I would receive all these cool post cards, naval patches, gifts from your travels while in the Navy. You always seemed like this bigger than life person. Then I got to know you as I became older, and I realized you were this bigger than life person. The way you filled a room with laughter and joy was immeasurable! The way you drilled into my personal life with questions, Ive always been guarded in that regard, but you found a way. I Just hope that somehow this message reaches you, and that you will know that every time Im around my nieces and nephew, I strive to be like my uncle Doug! 'I knew the Master Chief... I was a young INITIATED Chief on the NIMITZ as the CATCC Chief and LCPO... My first tour with khakis... Doug was the one that kept us running... He always came in before case 3 and asked me "Paul what can I do" He always fixed everything... Hated that I wore brown boots but he gave me a pass... The worst I've ever seen was when we were launching case 3 into a sandstorm for 2 weeks straight without a break and he fixed everything...We never lost one...Every NIMITZ pilot should thank him... When we arrived back home, we had flown the most combat sorties in the history of the Navy... Thanks to the Old Salt Doug Lange... My proudest moment of my career was joing him on the fan tail of the NIMITZ at quarters and pinning his 2 stars on... I was just a young Chief and he asked me and I was floored... My biggest honor... He was the best Chief I ever knew... I'm very sad for the family and his friends... this was a big blow to our Navy family... Rest in piece Master Chief... We have the watch.. Paul'
