Douglas Day Lease

Douglas D. Lease passed away unexpectedly on January 28, 2011. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 20, 1948. Doug graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and attended Texas Lutheran College and St. Mary’s University. In 1972, he married Marsha Patterson and joined her in business as co-owner of Flipside Record Parlour on SW Military Drive. Doug always had a love of music and an extensive knowledge of music history and record collecting.

He was in his element as owner of Flipside, and built it into a Southside cultural mainstay where he has kept the business for almost 40 years. In 1975, Doug and Marsha were blessed with their daughter Shelby. Although they divorced in 1980, they remained close friends until her death in 1989. Doug was preceded in death by his father, John C. Lease. He is survived by his daughter Shelby and her husband Bryan McMurrey, grandchildren Blakely and Braeden, his mother Lorraine Lease, sisters Barbara Peterson and Janet Lease, friend and store manager Clarissa Pena, and beloved bird Sachmo.

Memorial Service—Wednesday, February 2, at 1:30 p.m.
