

Doyle was born in Travis County, Texas to Roy W. and Annie V. Davis. He grew up in Austin and attended Austin High School. After graduation he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. During this time he enlisted in the 49th Armored Division of the Texas Army National Guard. Doyle was called up to active duty for a year from 1961 to 1962, in response to the Berlin Wall Crisis. After college, he became an electrical engineer and worked for the United States Air Force at Kelly A.F.B in San Antonio, Texas. He met Lena Patricia "Pat" Mazzola in Yancey, Texas, and after a brief courtship, they were married in 1965.
Doyle and his wife converted to the Church of Christ in the mid-1960s. They first attended the Woodlawn Hills Church of Christ, where he was a deacon, and then several other congregations in the San Antonio area. Doyle often preached sermons, taught bible class and led singing for the congregation. At the time of his passing, Doyle was a member of the OConnor Road Church of Christ.
As an adolescent, Doyle became captivated by the circus. He went to every circus that came to town and as a teenager, he built an enormous scale model circus that he was very proud of. His love for the circus never waned and as an adult, he took countless photographs and wrote many articles which were published in circus fan magazines. Doyle loved all sports and he played tennis. He was an accomplished photographer and writer.
Doyle raised three children and helped raise six grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved to sing and to play games with his children and grandchildren. Doyle and his wife traveled extensively and enjoyed new experiences. Doyle was diagnosed with dementia in 2012. In 2019, Doyle moved to the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville, Texas where he was lovingly cared for by the wonderful staff of the memory care unit.
Doyle Davis is survived by his son, Christopher Davis (wife Stacie); daughters, Stephanie Wersell (husband Chad) and Kimberly Young; Grandsons, Cole Davis (wife Samantha), Baylor Young and Brayden Young; granddaughters, Savannah Young and Catherine Davis; great-granddaughters, Oakley-Rae Davis and Abilene-Jo Davis; sister-in-law, Juanita Mazzola; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Davis, his brother Douglas Davis (Wife Margaret), his granddaughter Kaylee Rosales, and his parents Roy and Annie Davis.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Porter Loring North on Friday, January 28th 2022. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 29th, 2022 at Porter Loring North, 2102 North Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, Texas 78232.
