Dr. Alex Puente Castillo

Beloved for his unconditional love, Alex was a loving husband to his wife of 48 years, Diana, proud father of Alejandro and Gabriel, loving grandfather of Aidan (mother is Karen), mentor and friend. He is preceded in death by his mother Felis and father Juan; brother Fred (Julia); and sisters Patsy (Augustine), and Janie (Jose) and survived by his sister, Maria Reyes, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Alex graduated from South San Antonio High School and was awarded a full basketball scholarship which granted him the opportunity to attend college. He then earned a Bachelor’s degree and continued his education and ultimately earned a doctorate. He served his country in the Army, retired from South San School District and continued to support education as CEO and Superintendent of Lighthouse Charter School.

Throughout life’s journey, Alex paved his way through South Texas and truly made it, “from the fields to the Hall of Fame.”

He enjoyed hunting and golfing and sharing time and laughter with family and friends. He will be remembered as kind, humble, generous, and true to his faith and convictions.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021, at 9:30 am, at St. Joseph Church, 523 New Laredo Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78211.

The family will receive friends from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm, Monday, April 19th at Porter Loring Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a church and/or charity of choice.
