

Dwayne was born in Oakland, Tennessee to Willie Nelson Hunter, Sr and Norene “Madear” Pierce- Hunter on February 1, 1957. He went to school at Fayette Ware High School in Somerville, TN. He was a veteran and served in the Army for 21 years and was awarded an Honorable Discharge in 1996. Dwayne joined the Masonic Order while stationed in Germany. He worked in IT at Coca-Cola for 15 years. He was an avid cyclist, heavily involved in Special Olympics, drove a Penske truck cross-country for the Wagner High School band, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, heavily involved in the Poetry community while supporting his Autistic son. He was affectionately known as “Pops” by different generations of kids and teens. He was a big kid at heart and had a plethora of “toys” from racetracks, drones and RC cars. Music was an integral part of his life, and he always had the latest stereo equipment, a vast collection of albums and cd’s and would curate a playlist for any mood. There are not many pictures of him in front of the camera because he was always the designated camera man.
Dwayne is preceded in death by Willie Nelson Hunter, Sr., Norene Hunter, Bettye N. Cleaves, Roscoe Hunter and Hermeyone Bell (1st Spouse).
Dwayne is survived by his wife Velma, Erika (Hermeyone) Corey and Troy (Velma), Willie Nelson Hunter, Jr., Ruby Jean Anderson and Linda Diane Hunter, Terrell B. Johnson, III, and a host of nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.

Visitation will be held from 11 am-1 pm on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 24,2026 at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home with the Pastor Ed Jones of Trinity United Methodist Church of Houston, TX, officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Arrangements are by (Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
