

Elbert Dean Shaw, age 75, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 in Spring Branch. He was born in Frederick, Oklahoma to Dennis and Sallie Shaw. He attended Webster University earning his Masters Degree in Procurement Management. His forty-six years of combined military and civilian service included assignments with B Company, 326th Engineer Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles); A Company, 2nd BN, 505th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade; 82nd ABN DIV (All American); Headquarters & E Company, 4th BN; 503rd IN RGT; 173rd Airborne Brigade (the Rock); Special Forces Operational Detachment B-3; 12th Special Forces Group (ABN); SFOD A-2, C CO, 2nd BN; 1st Special Forces Group (ABN) - HQ, VII Corps, G-3 Directorate, Reserve Component Division; US Army Reserve Personnel Center, Officer Personnel Management Division; US Army Installation Management Command (HQ, Europe, & Korea Regions).
His military honors include the Legion of Merit; Bronze Star Medal w/V3OLC; Meritorious Service Medal w/OLC; Air Medal; Army Commendation Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/3 stars and Army Good Conduct Medal. During his civilian service he earned a Meritorious Civilian Service Award and a Superior Civilian Service Award.
Ret. LTC Shaw was a proud member of the Alamo Silver Wings Airborne Association and the 173d Airborne Brigade Association.
Dean is survived by his wife, Ulrike Shaw; children, Delores F. Barker, Deborah R. Shaw, Elbert Dean Shaw Jr., Brian Farley, Kion F. Shaw and wife Jennifer, and Camilla D. Pointer; Ruben F. Fischer and Betina Fischer, 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Imogene Price; brothers, Pervis C. Shaw, Joe D. Shaw and James Boyd Jr..
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Thursday, September 8, 2016, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
