Ebony Lydia Hernandez-Yergler, 23, heard the Lord calling and went home to him on December 3, 2023. Ebony was born in Wheatland, Wyoming on April 7, 2000 to her loving parents, Lynda Young and Brian Yergler. She is survived by her most precious blessing, her daughter, Lucyanna, beloved stepfather, Chris Young , sister, Ajea Young, and brother, Cayden Young. Her love continues to radiate through her Nana and Papa, Granny, Grandpa Ken, 6 Aunts, 8 Uncles, 18 first cousins, 6 second cousins and countless friends that have become family over the years.
Ebony‘s vivacious personality became evident the moment she began sticking her tongue out a few hours after birth. This character trait was passed down and can still be seen in her sister, brother and daughter. She grew up loving the Mountains. Whether she was four wheeling up one or snowboarding down one, she was always up for an adventure. She gained an adventure companion when she met her best friend Mikayla, at 10 years old. From being stuck in an earthquake in Puerto Rico, getting matching tattoos in Mexico to running out of gas, Ebony and Mikayla did it all side-by-side.
Ebony loved to serve others. She was exceptionally creative, and in true Ebony style, she shared her love and talent with the beauty industry. Her hard work and resilience, lead her to the Aveda Institute in San Antonio, Texas. While there she perfected her craft, and launched her own successful business , Ebs Styles.
From a young age, Ebony had the reputation as being the baby whisperer. This natural ability became fruitful on November 12, 2021 when her true love Lucyanna was born to her and Alex Torres. Watching Ebony in mommy mode was a work of art. Ebony continues to shine through Lucyanna from her hair to her personality. Being a mom is what made her world turn.
Although her family nicknamed her Ebeneezer, her vivacious personality and kind heart gave it a new meaning. She never met a stranger. To know Ebony is to know love. Anytime you were in her presence, you knew acceptance, you felt valued and you were cherished for who you are. Her kind and loving spirit was not reserved only for those that she personally knew. If she knew she was going to be in an area where homeless people were in need, Ebony would carry items with her to give. Animals, specifically dogs, we’re on her radar as well. Just ask Ajea and Jamarcus. They were accomplices to many of her rescues, including when she would hide dogs in her closet. Ebony’s adventures and shenanigans are legendary. The family has asked that you continue to share your memories with them. While they are struggling with this immense loss, they are finding comfort and peace, knowing that she had so much fun and that she enjoyed life.
In keeping with Ebony’s final wishes, any time you see Lucyanna please love on her and tell her how much Mommy loves her. Think of her when you see the Mountains, celebrate her memory, love hard, love each other, know that she is present everywhere and feel peace knowing that she is now free.
A celebration of life for Ebony will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232. A reception will follow at the Schertz Civic Center from 2:00 to 5:00pm, 1400 Schertz Parkway, Building 5, Bluebonnet Hall.
In Lieu of flowers, the family has set up an educational trust on Go Fund Me for Lucyanna. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated, search “Ebony Hernandez Yergler”.
