Edgar Wesley Dorsett III (Wes or Wesley to most) went to be with our Lord on March 10, 2023 after a nearly three year battle with cancer. Wes was born May 14, 1942 to Edgar and Kathleen Dorsett of San Antonio, Texas. He spent his early years on a small farm in southeast Bexar County. He was married to Marianne Elaine Odiorne for 59 years. They first met in the Bexar County 4-H and raised two sons. A lifelong resident of the San Antonio area, Wes was an avid outdoorsman. He loved being on a lake, river, or at the Gulf Coast with a line in the water. He enjoyed hunting and especially loved sharing these experiences with friends and family; he was a great storyteller in the evening at the hunting camp. Like his father, he was an accomplished woodworker, making many fine pieces of furniture and items for family members. He worked for City Public Service of San Antonio for 35 years, retiring in 1998 as the supervisor of the Environmental Group, after which, he and Marianne bought a home near Bulverde, Texas. Wes was a Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, Texas Rangers and Texas Aggie fan. He especially enjoyed football, baseball and rodeo. He was a prolific reader of Texas, western US and US military history. He was a long-time member of St Matthew’s United Methodist Church where he volunteered his time ushering, serving on numerous committees, and church activities. Following his cancer diagnosis, his outlook never changed, giving all of his concerns to the Lord. He experienced many happy memories with friends and family including fishing trips, grandchildren’s weddings, graduations, and births of his 3 great grandchildren.
Wes is survived by his wife Marianne; brother John and wife Judy; sons and wives Kenneth and Paige, Paul and Dawn; grandchildren and wives Jacob and Maddie, Jessica, Garrett and Jordan, Conner and Madeleine; and great-grandchildren Joey, Myla and Belle.
The family expresses deep appreciation for the START Center, Dr Scott Ulmer and staff, the nursing staff at North Central Baptist Hospital, VITAS Hospice and caretakers from Safe Home Care. Additionally, the family would like to thank neighbors, friends and church members for their prayers and loving support. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Matthew’s United Methodist Church or VITAS Hospice would be appreciated.
The family will receive friends for visitation at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, located at 2738 MacArthur View, San Antonio, TX 78217 on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
