Edgar was born in New Holstein on Dec. 9, 1936. After being a leader at New Holstein High School and graduating in 1954, he furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison on a football scholarship and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. He graduated in 1959 and stayed active as a commissioned officer in the US Army, while leaving the reserves years later as Captain.
Lucky for him, Edgar met his future wife, Maxine Repenshek at the University and married his college sweetheart on June 24th, 1961. They were later blessed with 4 children.
Being incredibly futuristic, Ed with Maxine started a Real Estate business in Madison, WI and subsequently moved with their children to San Antonio, Texas in 1978. He continued as a Real Estate Builder and Developer until the day he passed. His passion in life was his business, a place to dream, grow, accomplish, and achieve; he never stopped looking ahead and planning new things, yet never left the humble virtues learned during his childhood on the farm.
Also, with a big sense of adventure, Ed and Maxine enjoyed taking the kids snow skiing and sailing when they were growing up and they had some wonderful trips.
In Ed’s later years, he still worked and enjoyed running heavy equipment, like his John Deere 850C dozer, while mowing his lawn and raising chickens. He loved those chickens and was always excited every day to go out and get eggs.
Ed is survived by his wife of 64 years Maxine Markwardt; his 4 children, Greg, Jacquelyn, Pete, and Molly. His 9 grandchildren, Brittni, Hillari, Korbin, Mason, Brelin, Evan, Isabel, Audrey and Julia. His 2 step grandchildren, Daniel and David. His 3 great grandchildren, Rhett, Hallie and Quinn; and his 3 siblings, Ginny, Bob and Kari. And finally, his 5 good chickens.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents John and Frances Markwardt; and his 5 siblings, Wendall, Oney, Alma, Janet and Jack.
Undoubtedly one of a kind, his sense of humor and eagerness to get things done will be missed dearly.
