A proud graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Edgar was an accomplished athlete and a fierce competitor on the football field. He continued his passion for the sport at Trinity University, where he earned his degree while playing as part of the Trinity Tigers.
Answering the call to serve, Edgar joined the United States Army and rose to the rank of Captain—an honor reflecting his deep sense of duty and leadership.
Following his military service, he built a lasting legacy in San Antonio’s neighborhoods as a dedicated home builder and, later, as the owner of Vernon’s Nursery. His green thumb and tireless work ethic brought beauty to countless homes across the region.
Known for his culinary talents, Edgar was a key figure at Operation Blue Suit’s annual Air Force Recruiting Service picnics. His masterful barbecuing and infectious spirit added flavor and warmth to every event, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
Whether baking his favorite sweet treats, swinging a club on the golf course, casting a line along the Texas coast, or sharing a story at the grill, Edgar lived with heart, integrity, and a love for the simple pleasures in life.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privliedge of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Louise Niemeyer; nephew, Jay Niemeyer. Edgar is survived by his loving wife, Linda Niemeyer; son, Brad Niemeyer (Cindy); daughters, Carey Matjeka (Derek) and Lisa Spears (John); brother, Dennis Niemeyer (Rita); niece, Robin Niemeyer (Victor Moreno); grandchildren, Zachary Snider, Jacob Snider (Samantha), Emily Spears, Tanner Spears and Hayden Niemeyer; great-grandchildren, Everley and Cohen Snider; great-niece, Rowan Niemeyer; along with numerous step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren and step-nephews.
