

Edgar Welch Wyatt, Ed.D, age 73, died on Friday, January 14, 2011, Wyatt was born in Gainesville, Texas, to R. Welch and Elizabeth Cogburn Wyatt. He grew up in Wichita Falls, attended school there and graduated from Midwestern University now Midwestern State University with Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees. He later studied at the Pdagogische Hochschule in Ludwigsburg, Germany and the Hochschule fr Music and Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart, Germany. He also completed a Master of Education degree from Sul Ross State University, and Doctor of Education at UT San Antonio.
Wyatt was a charter member of the Sigma Tetarton chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity at Midwestern. Wyatt was a retired educator, having worked for public schools in Dallas, San Antonio, Castroville, Hondo, LaCoste, Devine and Natalia. He also worked in various churches for fifty-five years as a director of music and organist; his last charges being the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower 16 years and Jefferson United Methodist Church 35 years, where he was a member.
His volunteer work included as pianist for Silver Sounds of OASIS and the Meadows Retirement Center church services. He loved to travel, supported the arts and loved his family dearly.
Wyatt was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by a sister, Beverly Elaine Wyatt of Wichita Falls; a brother, Michael Anderson Wyatt and wife, Carol of Plano, Texas; two nieces, Elizabeth Anne and Michelle Elaine of Plano, Texas. He is further survived by friend and compadre, Danny T. Gonzalez and his family, several cousins, fraternity brothers Denman Smith and Charlie Webb, and a host of professional and personal friends and his beloved dogs.
The family would like to extend deepest gratitude to Dr. Gerald Sioco and Dr. Michelle Welch.
Wyatt was a child at heart and his favorite quote from children's literature is from Peter Pan by Sir. James Barrie:
"First star to the right and straight on 'til morning!"

Memorial service to celebrate Ed's life will be held at Jefferson United Methodist Church at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson United Methodist Church Music Department, the Jefferson United Methodist Church Hostel Program or to a charity of your choice.
Interment will be at Crestview Memorial Park, Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. in Wichita Falls, Texas.
